MGM Wireless, the Australian maker of the Spacetalk all in one children’s smartphone, watch and GPS device, has posted boom results for the first half of the 2020 financial year - with revenue up 86% from the same period in FY 2019.

A clear licensing framework is needed for space-based communications networks and systems, according to telecommunications lobby group Communications Alliance, which has welcomed the telecoms regulator ACMA’s intention to undertake a staged revision of the assessment of all space/space receive and earth/earth receive apparatus licences.

China maintained its position as the world's top smartphone market, with 369 million units in 2019. But this was a drop of 7% year-on-year, with 4G phone sales slowing while there was less demand than anticipated for 5G models.
