Saints snag another Tiger in Jarvis Landry, and a facelift for the Shrine?

By Chad Calder | Staff writer

Taking in Tigers: The Saints have taken in another big name former LSU player, this time signing free agent wide receiver Jarvis Landry. The news follows last week's signing of former LSU defensive back Tyrann Mathieu, who also went on to become a star in the NFL. You can also hear what some of the chatter was on Twitter among LSU players who have noticed this trend. And in case you missed it, the Saints schedule for the 2022 season has been released, and Jeff Duncan has a breakdown and Rod Walker has made his fearless predictions.

Overhauling the Shrine? Things have been quiet at the former Zephyr Field — now called The Shrine on Airline — since minor league baseball ended there in 2019. But Jefferson Parish officials are looking at ways to use stimulus money to fund a major renovation that could reconfigure the stadium to accommodate sports such as football, rugby and soccer.

COVID surging again: The illness caused by latest subvariant of COVID-19 remains milder than earlier iterations for those who are vaccinated and/or boosted, but the uptick in transmission that seems to inevitably follow the relaxation of public health measures appears to be underway. Infections are up 50%, and New Orleans is leading the state's nascent surge.
