It was wild and chaotic, but a welcome development in the eyes of every Saints fan. Following a 33-22 victory at Washington on Sunday, the Saints are 3-2 headed back to New Orleans for the bye week. The game had everything you can imagine for the Saints - good and bad. Along with a pair of turnovers by Jameis Winston and game-ending injuries to Taysom Hill and Deonte Harris, there was a hail mary TD pass by Winston and a nice showing by several other playmakers on the offense. It wasn’t how Sean Payton would’ve drawn it up, but the road win was critical for the Saints’ chances of being a postseason contender in the final weeks of the season. The Saints are 3-2 and have done it mostly without Michael Thomas, Erik McCoy, Terron Armstead, Tre’Quan Smith, Kwon Alexander and Marcus Davenport. On Sunday, Harris and Hill joined the long list of injured Saints. With two missed extra points on Sunday by Cody Parkey, we’re reminded each week that Wil Lutz has yet to return from his own injury. If the rest of the Saints’ season resembles Sunday’s game, the final 11 games will be fun and consistently flirting with danger. After the bye week, the Saints travel to Seattle for a Monday night game that’s looking a little more winnable with the injury to Russell Wilson. Enjoy your restored bragging rights at work on Monday. |
