By Bob WarrenYou-know-what cancels another event: Another day, another cancellation due to surging COVID cases. No Red Dress Run this weekend, organizers said Monday. Of course that comes on the heels of Sunday’s absolute gut-punch that the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival (already re-scheduled for October because of last spring's surge) won’t happen in 2021. The Jazz Fest cancellation goes a lot deeper than just being able to listen to great music and eat great food. Business writer Tony McAuley has this look at what it could mean for tourism, hotels and so many other aspects of our economy. Speaking of . . . the very latest COVID snapshot from the state is posted and the numbers aren't good, folks. Tweet what? Saints star WR Michael Thomas’ ankle injury continues to make news, and not just because he’s been missing from Saints camp as it heals up. Our sports columnist Jeff Duncan reported over the weekend that there were some, uh, lapses in communication between Thomas and the Saints. Thomas, on Monday, responded in a very cryptic Tweet. Stay tuned, folks. Speaking of the Saints, they'll have to find another kicker for a bit. Wil Lutz has to have surgery. Norco, the game: A computer game designer used his childhood in Norco as the basis for a game. It's a mystery centered in St. Charles Parish and you just might recognize some of the scenery. "Norco," the game, was a big winner at the recent Tribeca Festival in New York City. Faimon Roberts caught up with the designer, who goes by the name Yutsi. Growth opportunity: Here's something refreshing. One business owner saw last year's pandemic-forced business shutdown as a chance to grow her company. Check out her story. And an apology. We had a technical glitch and some recipients might not have gotten our morning newsletter, The Front Page, in their email today. (Computers, amirite?) Sorry again. Look for the Front Page again tomorrow morning, bright and early. All this and much more in today’s Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW You'll find all this and much more in today’s Front Page and on NOLA.com. Thanks for reading. JD |
