Welcome to the Saints Insider newsletter for Saturday. Before you head out to JazzFest, let’s catch up with what the Saints did on Day 2 of the NFL draft. It was a much quieter night that Thursday when the Saints traded up and drafted Ohio State receiver Chris Olave and Northern Iowa tackle Trevor Penning. The Saints only had one draft pick on Friday during the second and third rounds. They used their pick to draft versatile defensive back Alontae Taylor from the University of Tennessee. The Saints like their Tennessee players. Taylor joins a team that also has former Volunteers players Alvin Kamara, receiver Marquez Callaway, defensive tackle Shy Tuttle, cornerback Bryce Thompson and tight end Ethan Wolf. Saints beat writer Amie Just gives you more on Taylor and his big night here. Also, make sure to check out Luke Johnson’s analysis of the pick. Columnist Jeff Duncan writes about Dennis Allen, who is putting his stamp on his first draft as Saints’ head coach. The draft will conclude on Saturday with Rounds 4-7. Assuming the Saints don’t make any more trades, they have one pick in the fifth round and one pick in the sixth round. You can check back on www.nola.com throughout the day to see who the Saints selected. Thanks for reading and happy Saturday to all. Cheers, Rod Walker |
