Safe Net Zero eBulletin from HSE Theres just under two weeks to go until Safe Net Zero 2024, a content-rich, technical event from HSE designed to update and inform engineering and technology specialists about the safety considerations for materials used in hydrogen environments. Still thinking about whether to join us? Weve asked David Johnson, HSEs Deputy Chief Scientific Adviser, who will be hosting the day, to give us his thoughts about why this event is not to be missed by those selecting and maintaining materials for use in hydrogen environments. |
Why is the performance of materials in hydrogen environments so important for safety? It's a really relevant topic right now as sectors such as energy production, manufacturing, transport and aviation are examining the use of hydrogen, so that they can decarbonise and help the UK meet its net zero target by 2050. From our science and research, we know that materials can behave and perform differently in hydrogen environments and the aim of the event is to dive deep into the challenges associated with this, highlight the work being done to understand the implications for safety and share key learnings from each others work. What can we expect to hear on the agenda? As youve come to expect from the Safe Net Zero series, weve brought together the leading voices in materials science, research, engineering and industry to share their thoughts and experiences. Weve organised the agenda around three main sessions. The first session will explore what we currently know about the performance of materials such as metals, composites and polymers in both gaseous and liquid hydrogen environments as well as the state of the art in testing. Well then hear from industry users and how they are overcoming any challenges associated with using materials in practice, before looking into future trends and where theres opportunity for collaboration. Who should be in the room? This event brings together anyone with an interest in the safe development and use of materials in hydrogen environments to share current knowledge and experiences, identify where theres more to do and build relationships so that we can collectively work together to enable a safe net zero. That could be materials engineers, research and developers, asset integrity specialists, risk managers, current industry users or those who will use hydrogen as a future energy source. The benefit of such events is bringing together people who can share cross sector knowledge and experience. Its in everyones interest for hydrogen technologies to be safe. When does it take place? Its a one day event and takes place on Tuesday 13 February 2024 in central Manchester. How do I book? Tickets are priced at 350 (plus event platform fee) and can be purchased via Eventbrite. Were proud to announce Rolls-Royce as the headline sponsor for 'Safe Net Zero 2024: Safety considerations for materials used in hydrogen environments'. Rolls-Royce is committed to making its products compatible with net zero carbon emissions to meet customer demand for more sustainable solutions and sees an important role for hydrogen in helping to lower transport emissions, as well as for energy storage, home heating and powering smaller aircraft using fuel cells. Learn more about their hydrogen-related work on their website | | Sponsor this event We have a limited number of sponsorship and exhibition opportunities remaining for this event, which will provide an excellent platform to raise your profile with our delegates. With packages to suit all budgets, your presence will allow you to showcase your products and services, expand your professional network and generate new leads. |
