Safe Net Zero eBulletin from HSE HSE's Safe Net Zero solutions integrate health and safety into the development and deployment of the new and novel technologies underpinning the UK's decarbonisation activities. Here's a round up of our latest news and activities. HSE is one of eight consortium partners in ELVHYS, a project that aims to increase the safety of handling liquid and cryogenic hydrogen in operations such as tube trailer transfers, port bunkering and transport refuelling. As part of the project, HSE is conducting experimental research into the hazards and risks associated with potential fires and explosions from liquid hydrogen transfer facilities. The research involves use of HSE's liquid hydrogen testing facility located at its 550-acre Science and Research Centre in Buxton, Derbyshire, and the data generated will help to develop and validate models for the use of LH2 in mobile applications. The ELVHYS project is holding an International Stakeholders' Seminar on 30 September to 1 October 2024 in Bologna, Italy, where the project consortium will provide an update on the latest research findings. The event is free to attend and will be held both in person and online. Sharing our knowledge through training Our hydrogen timeline charts two decades of HSEâs world-leading, cutting-edge research looking into the practicality, risk and safety issues associated with utilising hydrogen as a source of low-carbon energy. We share this knowledge and experience through Hydrogen: The Fundamentals, a training course designed for those working with hydrogen, so that they can understand how it may behave differently to incumbent fuels and how to safely engineer for those differences. Join the growing number of delegates and organisations benefiting from HSE's hydrogen safety expertise. | |
