Unemployment claims rise to more than 9,300

Initial claims filed in S.C. climbed to 9,328 for the week ending Jan. 2 as eligible claimants began receiving the first round of extended federal benefits. The claims total was the state's highest since July 25. 

SSOE Group acquires architecture firm Stevens & Wilkinson

Stevens & Wilkinson has offices in Columbia and Atlanta and has worked on projects including the S.C. State Museum and the S.C. Statehouse. SSOE Group, a global project delivery firm, has offices in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

Port, attorney general file labor complaint with NLRB

The state agencies are accusing the International Longshoremen and a maritime alliance that represents unionized labor up and down the East and Gulf Coast states of unfair labor practices. S.C. Attorney General Alan Wilson says a clause in a labor contract would threaten the jobs of hundreds of state workers.
