JOIN US HERE!_________________________________________________ Russell 2000 Weakness Is a Red Flag: Why Small Caps Are Struggling in a High-Rate World Stocks are up across the board as we begin the latest holiday-shortened week of the year. Fragmented weeks generally start slowly and don’t get moving until later in the week. We have some important blue-chip stocks on deck for earnings like Occidental Petroleum (OXY), Devon Energy (DVN) and Walmart (WMT) this week. As far as sentiment, the Russell 2000 is not looking good — thanks in large part to high rates — and same thing with Consumer Staples. This tells me that defensive stocks aren’t doing all that great… The U.S. dollar, meanwhile, is still falling, which is good for deflation. If it breaks below the 100-day moving average, we have the 200-day as support down lower. This is also good for gold and I’m still bullish as long as it stays above the 8-day exponential moving average after Friday’s dip. The bond market (TLT) rallied but then fell right back to the 50-day moving average. If it starts falling, it will put pressure on stocks.
