Utah women's basketball kicks off its NCAA Tournament run today against South Dakota State at 8 p.m. MDT on ESPNU. If the Utes win, they will face either No. 4 seed Gonzaga or No. 13 UC Irvine on Monday. Last year, Utah fell in the Sweet Sixteen to LSU, who went on to win the national title. Here's what you need to know before the game.
Tuition, fees going up next fall, but many Utah public colleges, universities remain more affordable than their national peers
Tuition and fees will increase this fall at Utah’s state-supported colleges and universities, the Utah Board of Higher Education announced Friday.
The board “meticulously reviewed” tuition and fee requests prior to their approval, according to a statement from Amanda Covington, chairwoman of the Utah Board of Higher Education.
“The board conducted a rigorous review of the proposals and is focused on ensuring college is affordable and accessible for Utah students," she said. "Higher education delivers a significant return on investment for Utah students, and we recognize the precious dollars students contribute toward their training and education as they work to achieve their goals.”
The increases apply to the 2024-25 academic year and come after last year's tuition freeze, which Gov. Spencer Cox directed due to concerns of rising college costs.

Second gentleman of the United States Doug Emhoff visited Utah Friday to announce an investment in Utah's water infrastructure from the Biden-Harris administration.
In addition to the $580 million, Salt Lake City will receive a $40 million low interest loan for the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities to replace 9,000 to 14,000 existing lead pipes.
“Drinking water that comes from black pipes causes serious health problems, especially for young people. It stunts growth, causes brain damage and affects learning. The young people in our families simply deserve better, and they will get better,” the second gentleman said.
