Richland County property tax bills to include fee increase

While the county property tax rate will not increase for 2020, bills will include an increase in solid waste services fees of about 13%. Tax bills, including 177,000 real estate tax notices, are being sent out Friday and are due Jan. 15. 

Unemployment claims fall below 4,000 in week in S.C.

The 3,619 initial claims filed for the week ending Oct. 17 marked the lowest total since the COVID-19 pandemic began affecting state jobs in mid-March. Richland County led the state with 370 initial claims.

Marker to commemorate unit for Black patients, students 

A historical marker commemorating the former Columbia Hospital unit for Black patients and nursing students will be unveiled Saturday. The School of Nursing for Black Students graduated 401 nurses from 1938 until 1965.
