Rhode Island recently became the 20th state to enact a comprehensive data privacy statute and add to the growing patchwork of data privacy laws in the U.S. While much of the legislation is similar to other non-California privacy laws, two unique provisions stand out: a separate section that applies to any commercial website or internet service provider conducting business in Rhode Island, and the absence of a cure period in the text.
