Dear reader, Gavin Williamson, the Education Secretary, is announcing plans today for how schools will fully return in September. Last night, The Telegraph’s Camilla Turner revealed what was in those plans, including the possibility of whole schools being shut down by just a handful of infections. In the next 36 hours the Government is also expected to reveal which countries it is lifting quarantine measures for, having effectively abandoned its “air bridges” plan. You can read the countries likely to be included here. This evening Liverpool will play their first match since being crowned champions of England for the first time in 30 years. Trent Alexander-Arnold, the hometown hero, has spoken about his future at the club and how the team plans to ensure this championship is far from a one-off. Finally, the actor and comedian Carl Reiner passed away this week. For seven decades he was best friends with fellow actor and comedian Mel Brooks, and Martin Chilton tells the wonderful story of how they became friends and enthralled audiences for so many years.
