Dear reader, We report exclusively this afternoon that Durham Police have ruled that Dominic Cummings might have breached the lockdown rules. For many Conservative supporters, the continuing row presents a conundrum. As Allison Pearson sets out, he is a hero to most Tories and Leavers. But, Allison argues, that doesn’t excuse his behaviour. If he is to stay, she says, there’s one simple thing he needs to do first. Meanwhile, today the Government will review the lockdown and there is hope that we will soon be able to move out of it. Yet so far, the plan for easing appears cautious and slow. That is a mistake, Liam Halligan argues powerfully in his column, and one that risks worsening the already severe economic damage done to the country. Despite all the discussions of air bridges, the safest bet for a summer holiday this year is almost certainly still the UK. However, while that may have you daydreaming about remote Scottish isles or packed Cornish beaches, perhaps you should consider somewhere rather more landlocked. Sarah Baxter makes an excellent case for why you should visit what is apparently England’s least-loved county this year. Chris PS: Allison and Liam are hosting our brand new weekly podcast, Planet Normal, a news-analysis show for those “tired of elitist mainstream broadcasters and 'gotcha' journalism”.
