My son decided that he no longer liked his Spiderman lunch box and was refusing to use it in the new school year. I told him I could try and paint it, but I couldn't promise that it would be beautiful. We worked out the design together and got to work on turning his Spiderman lunch box into a BB-8, from Starwars, lunch box.

Halloween "Trick or Treat" Card
By attosa
I just love smiling ghosts... as opposed to creepy grumpy ones! :D They are so cute, and have been an icon for Halloween for decades. You can make this vertical-standing card if you don't have a ghost stamp like I used here. I've attached a ghost and "trick or treat" wording print-out if you'd like to use them.

The advantage of doing this project is that you can change designs anytime you want. This cost less or if you are creative enough, you can even make some out of recycled magazines almost for free. It would work well to store loyalty or bonus type cards.

Minimizing Damage from Hot Glue Burns While Crafting
By Ivey
If you craft a lot, then you most likely own a hot-glue gun. If so, you are surely familiar with the nasty burns that inevitably come with using one! Hot glue is very painful and continues to burn your skin for several minutes after contact. I always keep a bowl of ice-water within easy reach on my work surface.

Raised Salt Fall Kids' Artwork
By Benetta
Lately I have started using food colorings with the kids in my art class, as it is more cost effective and adds bolder colors to the end product. Combining food colorings with salt and glue offers a great technique for kids to explore their own creativity.

Use Vinegar When Lengthening Garments
By Judy
Sometimes when you lengthen a garment the crease line from the previous hem remains. The way to get rid of that is to moisten the crease with vinegar, and iron on the hottest setting allowable for the fabric. I always use a press cloth to protect the fabric.

My dad saves all his medicine bottles in a big bag, just waiting to make new use of them. He is, after all, the one who taught me to be a thrifty upcycler. Here, I've made him a bamboo vase from 4 of his bottles.

Recycled Lids as Tiny Gift Box
By Sandi/Poor But Proud
I bought this little Coke Cola magnet for a friend of mine. I didn't have any cute little gift bags so I made a little present box out of two Stax lids. I just measured it and the magnet inside fit.

Giving Plastic Pumpkins A Stone Look
By Ana I.
I wanted Halloween planters. My budget was small, but I had an idea to create this look with paints. I found these very inexpensive pumpkin buckets at Walmart for $1. I also had a large pumpkin bucket that was purchased at a thrift store, also for $1.

Crocheted with two strands of thread. I liked the sparkly gold with purple. You can use one color or two, but thinner thread will make a smaller project.

Teachers are always on the lookout for any material to use in the classroom. If an item can be recycled to create a game or activity, it not only saves us money, but helps the environment too.

Sugarbush (Protea) Adult Coloring Page
By Benetta
The protea is one of South Africa's most famous flowers. It is also called a sugarbush. The protea flower, which represents change and hope, is a local favorite in wedding bouquets. It is definitely one of my personal best-loved flowers.

Lining a purse can be a very intimidating thought. Then one night a few years ago I sat down and tried doing it as simply as I could. To my shock and delight, it worked! I have lined every purse since. It's quite easy, quick, and really adds a nice finishing touch to your handmade creations.

Pipe Cleaner Storage and Play Case
By Kirsten
Pipe cleaners are a fun on-the-go quiet play idea. Once they're out of the package though, you need a play case to keep everything in order. Here's how to make one so that cleanup is fast and take-along is completely grab'n go.

Turning a Crew Neck Shirt into a V-Neck
By Becky Miles
I recently found some t-shirts on sale at the craft store for $2. I was excited, but I despise crew neck shirts. I found a youtube video explaining exactly how to turn your shirts into v-necks and they looked like you bought them that way. It's easy and takes less than half an hour.

My little niece loves when we blow bubbles together, but there's always a little frown on her face when she's chasing them and they pop. I was buying her these little tubes of unbreakable bubble solution that worked okay, but not great. Here's a recipe to make your own that are very durable.
