| | Save the Date – Res Artis Meeting Kyoto, Japan |
Res Artis is excited to announce our 2019 conference, Creative Encounters: Reimagining Residencies, to be hosted by Kyoto City and Kyoto Art Center in cooperation with the Agency of Cultural Affairs from 6 – 8 February 2019. This 3 day meeting will address the evolution of arts residency models and rapid expansion of the field. We will compare traditional ‘time and space’ models with new residency typologies that reflect our changing social economy. Nomadic, start-up, virtual and Airbnb residencies will all be explored. The meeting will pose questions about the progression of the field using examples in Japan and internationally. How can we evaluate these new models? How can artists residencies remain socially engaged and respond to artists’ needs? How are these innovative new models funded? These key themes of the meeting will be reflected in Kyoto, a unique city where traditional and contemporary arts co-exist. Like artists in residence encountering different places for the first time, participants will experience the rich culture of Kyoto by way of excursions, city walks and tea ceremonies that will encourage further dialogue and networking. Further information on the programme and registration will follow in the next couple of weeks. |

Lea O’Loughlin appointed new President of the Board of Res Artis |
Res Artis is proud to announce the appointment of Lea O’Loughlin as the new President of the Board of Res Artis. Lea O’Loughlin is the Head of Residencies and Awards at Acme Studios in London, UK. She has served as a Res Artis board member since 2014, as Secretary from 2015 to 2016 and Vice-President since September 2016. With its headquarters in Amsterdam and two satellite offices in Melbourne and Tehran, the UK Presidency indicates our core value of achieving greater visibility and relevance to our members all over the globe. It also signals a renewed dialogue about the UK’s status as a significant global cultural contributor, post-Brexit. Lea says on her new role “My desire to lead the Res Artis Board stems from a genuine belief in the work that we do and the potential for Res Artis to create positive impact; growing its influence, membership and network to collectively strengthen the residencies sector. Every artist residency centre should have the opportunity to connect with colleagues and to support their organisational sustainability regardless of their size, or challenges of their cultural or geographical context. I have a history of working with organisations in the artists’ studios and residencies sectors, and with international membership bodies to empower artists and amplify the benefit of their contribution to society. Bringing the Presidency of this international professional cultural network to the UK at this particular moment in time, is incredibly important. I look forward to working with UK, European and international colleagues to develop meaningful dialogue and increase cultural connectivity through artistic mobility and exchange.” |
