The Value of International Cultural Networks
We, international cultural networks, come together on a regular basis in Malta to share experiences and knowhow, to increase our cooperation and to discuss how we can better support the cultural sector. "The Value of International Cultural Networks" is our statement of why we are here and why we intend to stay. You are welcome to share and spread this message and address the value of international cultural networks! THRIVE â Networking Culture Leaders Our board member Lea O'Loughlin attended the workshop THRIVE â Networking Culture Leaders in Singapore last fall. THRIVE was presented through a partnership between the International Federation of Arts Councils and Culture Agencies (IFACCA); the European League of Institutes of the Arts (ELIA); Arts Network Asia and presenting partner LASALLE College of the Artsâ Arts Management Programme of the Faculty for the Creative Industries. The project was supported by ASEF Creative Networks of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and by the National Arts Council of Singapore. The THRIVE workshop was designed for the leaders of cultural networks in Asia and Europe and aimed at developing future collaborations between networks on both continents, improving the operations and well as the impact of cultural networks. All in all, leaders of international culture networks represented 16 countries in Asia and Europe. The public session attracted 80 participants to hear selected network leaders give presentations on the topic: 'Global Issues for International Culture Networks: Perspectives from Asia and Europeâ. A video about the workshop can be found here. Last Residencies for Sa Taronja in Mallorca? Sa Taronja - The Orange - a unique artist-run centre in Mallorca, is up for grabs. For reasons of age, health and lack of financial resources the owner is about to give up - just as, ironically, the centre has been given a chance to create a new 15-apartment residence in one of its old agricultural halls. Sa Taronja is expected to carry on until midsummer 2016 - or maybe even a few months more - but if a visionary millionaire cannot be found to support it, buy it, or initiate the building of the planned new residence wing (which will make it become completely self-financing, even profitable), it will simply be closed when the money runs out, and the island will lose its most idiosyncratic cultural centre. If you believe that art is vital to society and you know of anyone who might be interested in giving a new meaning and direction to their life by plunging into a fascinating cultural adventure that creates a profound impact on the lives of people around them, has enormous potential and involves spending lots of time in the Mediterranean, please contact the team at Sa Taronja. An information pamphlet in English, Spanish or German as well as a video with versions in the three languages can be accessed here.
