Dull, overcast, rainy. Starting in western Minnesota tonight, a spring storm is bringing clouds, rain and snow across the state. Much of western Minnesota will see a half-inch or more of precipitation through Tuesday night, while the eastern half of the state sees lighter amounts. Northern Minnesota could see a little light snow mixing overnight but no accumulation is expected. COVID-19 in Minnesota today: 571 new daily confirmed cases, total death toll rises to 428. The number of confirmed cases on Monday continued to jump as testing accelerates in the state — 7,234 Minnesotans tested positive since the pandemic began. Current hospitalizations, 396, and intensive care cases, 166, also hit new highs. From $1.5 billion surplus to deficit, how much has COVID-19 affected Minnesota’s budget? Months ago, lawmakers were debating how to spend extra money. This week, state leaders learn if they’ll have to confront a deficit instead. If the budget report shows a looming deficit, officials believe, it will permit them to tap into Minnesota’s $2 billion rainy-day reserves to cover some state expenses.
