Democrats, For the first time in our nation's history, the Speaker of the House has been removed from office. House Republicans are witnessing the fruits of their systematic enabling of the extreme rightwing. By allowing their most extreme elements to take over, Republicans nearly shut down the government over the weekend, and are now fighting over who should be the next speaker. The fact is - Kevin McCarthy allowed this dysfunction to take place when he made a deal with the likes of Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene in order to secure the speakership. And what was Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer's response to this mess? Blame Democrats. Instead of owning up to the fact that she voted for a Speaker who was willing to make a deal with extremist Republicans in order to gain power, Lori Chavez-DeRemer tweeted that Democrats were somehow the reason why the Republican majority couldn't get anything done. But her tweets don’t do anything to help Oregon’s working families. Oregonians deserve real action from the Republican members of our delegation, not lip service about how frustrated they are over the mess they helped create. Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Cliff Bentz voted for a Speaker of the House who allowed people like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Matt Gaetz to run the Republican caucus. They have failed the people of their districts. Their failed leadership has once again taken us to the brink of disaster.
