Good afternoon! Lots going on today, so let's dive in.

Snake on the loose

Blue Zoo Aquarium in the Mall of Louisiana shut down this morning as officials searched for an escaped python. Reporter Lara Nicholson has the story.

'A matter of good and convenient care'

Former Gov. Edwin W. Edwards chose to place himself in hospice care Monday night at his home in Gonzales. The decision comes after an ambulance trip to the hospital a day prior when the 93-year-old statesman complained about intense pain in his right lung.

"While people assume that hospice means I'm dying, I assure everyone it’s simply a matter of good and convenient care that is less trouble for everybody," Edwards told us. "I've made no bones that I have considered myself on borrowed time for 20 years and we each know that all this fun has to end at some point."

Purple yam ice cream?

Yep, that's the favorite flavor at Sweet Society, which is serving up Japanese-style ice cream out of its shop in the Electric Depot on Government Street.

You can read all about one of Baton Rouge’s newest ice cream stores (and its other exotic offerings) here.
