Friend, In the dead of night, the Senate Republican majority approved Trump’s request to strike $9 billion from the previously approved federal budget — zeroing out funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, and all of the affiliated outlets it supports, like NPR and PBS. But hear me when I say that we still have a chance to save public media. Since the Senate amended the legislation, the House needs to vote again to pass it. When the House voted on this measure in June, it passed by just two votes. All we need to do today is make sure every Democrat shows up and a small handful of Republicans cross the aisle to do the right thing. We can do this. But we need to act now. Today is a make-or-break day for something we all care deeply about. We know we’ve asked a lot from you already on this issue, but we are running out of time to save public media. Call before it’s too late: 202-688-0628. Here’s a script to get you started: Hello! My name is [First Name]. I'm a constituent and am calling to ask Rep. [Congressperson] to oppose today’s budget-rescission package that cuts off funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Public media is one of our nation’s most valuable public goods, with overwhelming support among people from all 50 states and all political leanings. Protect public media at all costs. |
