| | | | | | On behalf of the Austrian Institute for International Affairs – oiip and the Department of Political Science of the University of Vienna - IPW I would like to remind you of the Lecture on the topic Gendered Militaries. How Gender Matters in and for Armed Forces Gender issues have gained increasing importance in and for military institutions. This transformation includes the growing participation of women in the military apparatus itself as well as the integration of gender perspectives into the design of military operations, particularly peacekeeping missions. In light of these changes, this panel discussion addresses the effects of women’s presence in the military system and the challenges that gender integration faces regarding equality and anti-discrimination. These issues will be embedded in their broader social context: What are the relations between the armed forces and society and how do they connect to gender relations? What is the role of international organizations like UN, OSCE and NATO as well as international frameworks such as the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in including gender perspectives in the military? Our panelists will discuss these questions on the basis of their in-depth expertise in the research field as well as the policy process. Date & Time: Monday, December 3rd 2018 5.30 pm Venue: Berggasse 7, 1090 Vienna Panel: Megan Bastick (Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, DCAF) Helena Carreiras (ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon) Chair: Saskia Stachowitsch (IPW, Universität Wien | oiip) Program Registration In cooperation with the Federal Ministry of Defense.
