Edwin Edwards has died: Edwin Edwards died Monday morning at his home in Gonzales. He was 93. To say Edwards dominated Louisiana politics for decades would be an understatement. Beloved by some, detested by others, Edwards won four terms as governor – including the 1991 race against David Duke – but also spent eight years in federal prison. It was, to say the least, a colorful life. Be sure to check back with NOLA.com throughout the day for more.
Restaurant Row: The last of four Lakeview businesses damaged in a 2020 fire has reopened, joining a restaurant row of sorts on Harrison Avenue. Lakeview Burgers & Seafood joined the Steak Knife, Reginelli’s Pizzeria and Parlay’s Bar. Welcome back!
Not taking care of business: The out-of-state company that owns the troubled Esplanade shopping mall in Kenner isn’t only behind on its taxes. It also isn’t maintaining the property like it should be, the city of Kenner says. It got so bad the city hired a crew to go and clean it up recently.
Donut shop: NOPD put out a call Sunday night for help identifying the drivers of a couple of vehicles that were doing donuts -- not the kind with powdered sugar -- at a crowded intersection earlier in the day. Video shows the two vehicles doing big donuts at a Warehouse District intersection – with some odd crowd participation in which people step in to touch the vehicles as they spin in circles. You can’t make this stuff up.
Also in the news: The old McDonogh 7 building is slated to become part of an affordable housing development soon. And a couple of north shore men think they have to answer to western St. Tammany's traffic problem - it involves a new bridge and toll.
