The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated the shift to digital, especially contactless payments. Reinforcing the need of the hour, the European Commission recently proposed a framework for a European digital identity wallet to enable citizens to prove their identity and transfer electronic documents from their European digital identity wallets by just tapping their smartphones. The proposed digital identity wallet will be available to all European Union (EU) citizens & residents and those operating businesses in the EU. The framework will offer citizens access to online services throughout Europe. |
