Women's Aboriginal Weaving Workshop

A group of women joined Lea Taylor at the Wetlands Centre for a weaving workshop and an insight into her cultural heritage and history.

Lea is a Bibbulmun Artist from the Wadandi Menang and Koreng nations in Western Australia and an award-winning artist from Creative Culture. She guided attendees with her way of weaving, with everyone being able to begin a weave, most starting baskets, while others created earrings or placemats. Attendees were able to bring their masterpieces home and continue in their own time.

Cockitrough - Raised Bird Waterer

A new four-metre-high, off-grid bird waterer has been installed in a popular foraging site for the threatened Forest Red-tailed Cockatoo in Bibra Lake now. The first to be fitted with solar-powered submersible water pump connected to a 1000-litre bulk water container. Designed and supplied by the Town of Victoria Park’s Natural Areas Team and manufactured in Perth. The waterer has four large troughs raised at different heights and angles with timber rungs for perching and beak-sharpening.

Within a week of installation, the waterer has been a hit with local birdlife. Footage was recorded of birds including the Australian Magpie and Red wattlebirds. To visit it, go to the corner of Hope Road and Progress Drive. Walk up the path (west) on the northern side of the reveg and you'll see it about 100m up the hill. Or follow this link!
