2017 1/10th Offroad Victorian State Titles – Report Posted: 18 Oct 2017 06:15 AM PDT The 2017 1/10 Offroad Victorian State Titles were held at the red clay track of the bordertown Wodonga RC Club. The original date in August was washed out so the re-run was held in combination with the Coleman Cup, an event that has been running for over 20 years in memory of a young racer who tragically died at a young age. This event celebrates sportsmanship and competition, and the prestigious ‘Coleman Cup’ for services to the sport was awarded to Bazz Densely who not only prepared buggies for his two kids to race but also helped with track prep and even cooking the bbq through the weekend. Racers were treated to a fantastic blue groove surface on the bumpy but flowing classic outdoor track, with sunny weather for practice and 4WD day but rain on 2WD day which kept everyone on their toes chasing the perfect setup. The event ran with the Holeshot V2 as the control tyre for all classes. In 4WD Mod Ray Munday took TQ from Zammit and Andrew Selvaggi, but in the finals ‘CamZam’ proved too strong taking out A1 and A3 to defend his title from 2016. Cam was pushed hard by Selvaggi, the result only decided in the last couple of laps of A3, with Simon Healy and Lachlan Munday 3rd and 4th. Munday also took TQ in 2WD with his from Healy 2nd and Selvaggi 3rd. In A1 it started raining making conditions slippery but Munday took the win from a hard charging Healy with Andrew holding his podium place. Unfortunately the rain came down harder after A1 so the event was called based on the results of this single final. Cam Zammit took TQ in Mod Truck but had some poor luck in the finals. Simon Healy made the most of this to take the win as Matt Kellett came in 2nd and Andrew Adamic finished 3rd. In 17.5 Leigh Cheeseman was on a mission all weekend, taking TQ in each of the 17.5 classes and converting in the finals to win all three. It wasn’t as easy as it looked though, as he was pushed extremely hard by Ben Howard. 2nd placed in 2WD 17.5 and Jason Milbourne, 2nd placed in 4WD 17.5 and Truck 17.5T with Simon McHugh rounding out the podium in both of the buggy classes and Hope Densley taking a popular 3rd in Truck 17.5. Junior 17.5, or Under 16 2WD, is a very popular class in Victoria, with a full field of racers looking to make their mark on the sport. Brian Lawrence took TQ from Nathan Facciol and Shane Lawrence. In the finals Brian took the win from brother Shane, Nathan 3rd. In 21.5T 2WD Paul Slifka took TQ but couldn’t convert in the finals as Nathan Krone would place himself at the front of the pack for the win. 21.5T 4WD saw another battle between Paul Slifka and Nathan Krone with many entertaining races. The result was a reversal of 2WD, Slifka taking the win from Krone. Thanks to Ray Munday for the report. ![]() ![]() |

Updated Capricorn C803 front bumper Posted: 18 Oct 2017 03:40 AM PDT Capricorn have introduced an updated front bumper for the C803 1/8th on-road car. The part features a higher rib in the rear section that leads to increased overall stiffness while the updated design also allows to mount the front body posts directly onto the bumper, doing away with the need to use an upper plate. Using bumper-mounted body posts will improve the overall downforce available and the bumper is usable on all of Capricorn’s 1/8th on-road cars. An extra upper plate is included in the set to further strengthen the front area but it is only usable with C803 based cars. Source: Capricorn [capricornrc.com] ![]() ![]() |

RCSS B64 LCG Relocation shock towers & upper deck Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:46 AM PDT Coming from RC Speed Secrets and made for the Team Associated B64 and B64D are the carbon fibre LCG Relocation shock towers and a carbon fibre front upper deck. Starting with the shock towers, RCSS relocated the holes to align the camber link above the hinge pin and added some extra LCG tuning hole options in the same position. The result is a car that tracks better while promoting sweeping turns versus more choppy turning. The towers also offer more tuning options for higher traction surfaces like carpet, turf, and high bite clay. Although in testing showed that it is best to run both front and rear LCG towers, Team Associated’s Spencer Rivkin just used the rear tower to take a 2nd overall at the recent International Offroad Carpet Championship. Also new is a carbon fibre front upper deck for the B64 and B64D. The part minimises chassis flex on high bite surfaces to increase speed and stability. The part is a direct bolt-on and works for carpet, turf, and high-bite clay. A suitable rear deck will follow soon. Source: RC Speed Secrets [rcspeedsecrets.com] ![]() ![]() |

Heras wins Spanish 1/8th finale as Ortega takes title Posted: 18 Oct 2017 02:11 AM PDT The final round of the Spanish 1/8th IC Track National Championship was held at the Club Carsol track in Elche in the south of Valencia. Carlos Peracho Heras was the man to beat and he would take the pole position for the A-main event. Joining him was Adrián Santeiro who won the Super Pole race that was held under rainy conditions. The changing weather was also a key factor in the semi-finals with the right tyre choice being crucial to secure a ticket for the main event. For the sake of excitement all championship favourites, Sergio Montesinos, Rubén Olivares, Victor González and Guillermo Pérez, made their way into the main, so the championship would go down to the wire. From the tone Peracho Heras and Olivares Munoz separated from the field despite the two being in a wheel-to-wheel battle. The pit crew of Carlos showed some very swift work during the main and in the end he was able to walk away with the win in front of Vicente Eres Ramos. Further down the field it were Sergio Montesinos Ortega and Guillermo Pérez who had a long battle for 3rd position, and in the end the latter took the final podium spot by only a tenth of a second. For Sergio Ortega the 4th place was enough to be crowned new Spanish Champion 2017.

Posted: 18 Oct 2017 01:08 AM PDT For the first time in Super Cup history, the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series was held outside of the Florida State line and ventured into Savannah, Georgia’s Phil Hurd Raceway. 3-time host to the US Offroad Nationals in 91, 92, and 95, Phil Hurd Raceway is a track well known for its rich history and this year is celebrating 30 years of operation. The track is massive resembling more of a 1/8th track than 1/10th. With room to spare, lap times were in the 31 second plus range making mistake free runs extremely difficult. With heavy rain falling on Friday, Saturday morning saw a slow start to the day as the track crew fought hard to get the track race ready. As the sun came out, the track was quickly drying and racing was underway just around 2pm. The flow of the track was great and the layout extremely fun with a Phil Hurd twist. By the mains, the grip was much higher allowing cars to put the power down and made for a great night of racing under the lights. It was an exciting 5 minute A-final in the 2WD Modified division with the top 3 drivers breaking off early from the pack. With a comfortable lead, Team Associated’s Daimon Borkowicz had a slight run-in with lapped traffic handing the lead over to Serpent’s Griffin Hanna. Within a few corners, Jason Ruona (Team Associated) block passed Hanna to lead the trio around. However, it was Hanna taking a high-risk approach to get back in front, but the two touched wheels resulting in Runoa getting left on his lid. Sportsmanship runs high with Hanna as he waited to give the spot back to Jason. Meanwhile, Daimon would fly by to retake the lead and the win. Ruona would finish 2nd and Hanna 3rd overall. It was a terrific showdown between long-time Florida champ, TLR’s JR Mitch vs the young guns in 4WD Modified. Able to set the pace in qualifying, JR masterfully controlled the pace making it hard for the youngsters to match his speed and duplicate his run. Despite being able to run the lap times, the young guns would charge hard taking turns to attack JR, but to no avail. After 5 minutes JR cruised to an easy victory with Lee Setser (Team Associated) 2nd and Serpent’s Griffin Hanna 3rd. The Open Stadium Truck class belonged to Vince McMahon, who was also the Open SCT class winner as well. The evening dose of traction heavily favored experienced drivers like McMahon, who was able to move from 4th on the grid into 1st. Rob Cantrell finished where he started in 2nd and Chris Burton 3rd on the podium. A strong Open Short Course A-main showing would give Vince McMahon the edge over his competition as he took home the win. Dan Borkowicz also had a great run to finish 2nd with Joe McDonie 3rd overall. The 2WD Expert Stock class was led by hometown hero, Patrick Rossiter Jr, who showed tremendous pace throughout qualifying and turned it up another notch for the A Main. Rossiter was able to take a tone to tone win with AJ Marasco 2nd and Vince McMahon once again making another podium appearance in 3rd. In 13.5 4WD Buggy, AJ Marasco wouldn’t be denied. From setting TQs in qualifying to the main event, AJ was on point and proved to be too fast for the competition. Ryan Harris made a late race charge to finish 2nd with Patrick Rossiter Jr. 3rd. It was anyone’s race in the 40+ Open Buggy class, but when it came time to shine, Doug D. made it happen. Taking the win by four seconds, Doug drove a solid race to finish ahead of Rob Lupo and Hironobu Yamaguchi. Ryan Harris has been on fire in the Independent 2WD Stock Buggy class and this weekend was no different. Winning by a large margin, Ryan would add another flawless victory to his independent stock efforts. Ryan Castline was runner-up along with Tracey Procter in 3rd. With a better showing in Independent Stock Truck, Scott Setzer would go on to take a huge victory coming from 5th on the grid. Andy McNeil would also make huge gains from 7th on the grid to finish 2nd while Clayton Jett took the final spot on the podium in 3rd. Zachary Schmidt takes the gloves off during the 5 minute main in Independent Short Course. Zachary would go on to win by only .5 seconds over his rival, Jason Brown. Scott Setzer would duke it out for the final spot in 3rd. The Novice class again saw the gathering of future talent and ultimately Chris Burton Jr. would take the win with Trent Glider 2nd and Taeylor Laforest 3rd on the podium. Joining the Novice drivers and sharing the same heats and mains were the MT/Stampede guys. Scott Defino ended up getting the best of them that day taking down Jason Ruona and Dan Borkowicz with some serious driving skills. Always a fun class full of great racing and always delivers a great show for the spectators. Source: JConcepts [jconcepts.net] ![]() ![]() |
