Ty Tessmann TQs & wins at Sikcross Race Posted: 07 Sep 2017 11:00 AM PDT The 2017 Sikcross Race was held at Southern California’s Pro-Line test track. The race was put on by Levi Jackson with Sik Track Designs and the format was different than the standard IFMAR qualifying, as it is setup more like motocross event with heads up gate starts. The first two rounds of Expert Nitro Buggy qualifying were won by Xray’s Ty Tessmann and after a resort, he was qualifying in the last one in a heads up race with Mugen’s Ryan Maifield who won his first two rounds of qualifying. The two had a really good battle, swapping positions back and forth a couple of times, but when coming out of the sand trap on the last lap, Ty hit a hole that he knew was there but he couldn’t see his car well due to the dust from the sand trap. Tessmann took a tumble and Maifield got by to TQ the final round. However Tessmann was able to take the overall TQ with Maifield qualifying 2nd overall. The mains would be triple 15 minute legs ran back to back with 5 minutes in between. For every 15 minute main the organisers used the heads up gate start and drivers chose their position at the gate by their qualifying position. The first main Ty got the holeshot and pulled away, maintaining the lead for the whole race to win. In the 2nd main, Tessmann also got the holeshot but it was very close with Maifield right behind him. The two had a really good battle throughout the entire main, swapping positions, towards the end of the race Ty was able to create a small gap and take the win. In the third main Ty wasn’t able to get the holeshot but did get a fairly good start. Tessmann had a battle with Maifield for the first lap when Maifield’s car stopped suddenly on the track and he was out of the race. Ty clipped a hole on the straight away and Anthony Westergard got into the lead and let the race for several minutes, when he would make a mistake and Tessmann would get by to take the lead. Ty was able to create a gap on the field and just drove fast enough to maintain a gap to take the win in A3 and with it the overall win from TLR’s Anthony Westergard and Tekno’s Joe Bornhorst. SARDA On-road National Championship Rd4 – Report Posted: 07 Sep 2017 03:01 AM PDT The fourth round of the 2017 South-African ORE national championship was hosted by the Krugersdorp Model Racers and held at the Key West Track. Controlled practice was held on Thursday and Friday with great spring weather and good track conditions ensuring a fast pace for all drivers. The 2002 IFMAR Worlds track had received a surface repair and all the contenders used the two months leading up to the event for good practice with club events, practice days and a pre-national event hosted at the track. The good preparation ensured that the event would be a demanding and a close affair. The Touring Modified drivers are really focussed on improving all the time with the 2018 IFMAR Worlds in South Africa on the horizon. It was clear from the events and practice leading up to the event that Anderton Smith and Hein Kotze were the drivers to beat for this nationals. The controlled practice showed however that the Liebenberg brothers, Jason Hillcoat, Antonio Caroli, Ashley Hurley, Willem Janse van Rensburg and Wouter Ferreira would also be there to compete for the podium. In Q1 Anderton Smith dominated with a good run to start his quest for overall TQ but a mistake in Q2 saw Hein Kotze taking TQ in that round. Anderton Smith recovered and had two great runs in Q3 and Q4 to secure the eventual TQ. It was Hein Kotze who secured the 2nd spot on the grid with Antonio Caroli starting from 3rd. In A1 Anderton Smith ran a strong race from the TQ spot to win and after Hein Kotze made a mistake Antonio Caroli and Jason Hillcoat finished 2nd and 3rd. In A2 Anderton made a mistake and fast Hein Kotze took a great win. In A3 Anderton Smith again showed his great pace by winning the final main followed by his team mates Hein Kotze and Antonio Caroli. The win for Anderton Smith and 2nd place for Hein Kotze resulted in Hein Kotze winning the national title for 2017. Modified Touring final results: The Pro-Stock 13.5T Blinky class up for grabs with the 2017 champion Jonathan Wilken not racing. It was his brother Tyronne Wilken who had great practice sessions and qualifying runs who took the TQ spot. It was Gunther Cornelius who took the 2nd spot on the grid with Jean Wessels starting from 3rd. During the three finals John Fitzimmons and Christo Hitchins showed great pace but the front row drivers eventually finished as the started with Tyronne Wilken winning the event, Gunther Cornelius achieving second place and Jean Wessels completing the podium. Pro-Stock 13.5T final results The Formula 21.5T championship is still a great contest for 2017 and the drivers had to work hard to get a good setup on the challenging track. Jonathan Wilken was leading the championship coming into the event but he was challenged strongly by his brother Tyronne Wilken and by his team mate Pedro de Gouveia. It was Pedro who drove consistent qualifying races to take the TQ with Jonathan Wilken starting form the second spot. Young Nico Kellerman also drove well and managed to qualify in P3. After great racing in the three mains Pedro managed to cap off a perfect weekend with a win with Jonathan clinging onto second place and Tyronne Wilken managed to take the last podium spot away from Nico Kellerman. The TQ and win for Pedro means that he and Jonathan are tied on points with one event remaining with Tyronne trailing by only 5 points. Formula final results: In the 13.5T FWD class it was the young drivers who showed the way around the track with Nico Kellerman securing TQ and old dude Fanie Viljoen Sr and Paul van der Westhuizen securing P2 and P3 on the starting grid. Fall Super Cup Championship Series – Report Posted: 07 Sep 2017 02:37 AM PDT The Fall edition of the JConcepts Super Cup Championship Series started off with a bang at Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Having already held a Spring Super Cup on the astroturf earlier in the year, Beachline learned a lot from the previous visit making a track that was more enjoyable with lower speeds, better jumps, smooth piping, and a very solid race program. The layout was a lot of fun. Fast and fearless, Team Associated’s Daimon Borkowicz was able to set the TQ in 2WD Modified and control the race from start. However, making a big mistake on the step up, Daimon would momentarily hand over the lead to TLR’s JR Mitch. While controlling the gap and holding off the attacks, JR would have an unfortunate run in with lap traffic and was forced to give up the lead. Once back in front, Daimon would gather his composure and hold off a hard charging Billy Easton to take the win. The former world champion, Billy Easton (Serpent) would finish 2nd and JR Mitch 3rd making it a star studded podium. In the 4WD Modified class, it was JR Mitch feeling the flow in qualifying earning TQ over a very competitive field. With a bad first lap in the single A-main event, JR would get shuffled back to the pack and wasn’t able to recover to finish on the podium. In five minutes, the race would see five lead changes as they all fought to stay out in front, but halfway through the race, Serpent’s Billy Easton would take command and drive the cleanest 2nd half of the race to take the win. Recovering from multiple mistakes while chasing for the lead, Daimon Borkowicz (Team Associated) was able to manage 2nd over a very quick Justin Fales and his Serpent 4WD. In 13.5 4WD it was a dominant display of driving for AJ Marasco as he set the fastest qualifying time and checked out in the 5-minute main event to take a convincing win. Daniel Chavez delivered a fast and consistent performance in the final to take 2nd and Ryan Harris also making a strong statement to finish on the box in 3rd. In 17.5 Expert Stock Buggy once again AJ Marasco was able to find the top step of the podium and delivered when it counted most. Not having the cleanest qualifying runs, AJ managed to pull it together and fought for the win over a very speedy TJ Bradley. TJ would finish 2nd with Derek Jacobs 3rd. All three drivers put on a great show as there were multiple lead changes making it an exciting race. Coty Saucier took the win in the Monster Truck/Stampede class using his own RC truck to take the win. Coty is the actual Monster Energy Monster Jam driver and watching him drive around the RC version of his truck on turf was absolutely fantastic. Also congrats to Scott Defino for having the coolest tricked out truck and for finishing 2nd with Garrett Benson rounding out the top 3. 40+ Open 2WD was a job well done for John Prickett as he was able to take the win in the class ahead of Jabin Cariton. Jabin drove a great race keeping Prickett honest always staying within striking distance. Billy Bruce finished on the final step on the podium in 3rd. With five heats of 17.5 Independent Stock Buggy, the battle was awesome. Shining from the field, Ryan Harris would deliver an excellent drive to take the win from starting 3rd on the grid with an exciting last lap pass to take the win. 2nd was TQ, Kenny Setser, who showed tremendous speed from the youngster and definitely a force to be reckoned with in the future. Tim Allen would hold down 3rd and only 4 seconds behind Setser. The 2WD Independent Stock Short Course win went to Bradley Nicosia. Tracey Proctor and Jeff Lynn went on to finish 2nd and 3rd behind Nicosia. Chris Cronan drove a great race to take the win in Independent Stock Truck title over a very young and talented Cameron Morales. The gentleman lifting the kid in the air and having a great time is Joey Trautman, the 3rd place finisher. In 4×4 Short Course Bobby Lafrate took a 1 lap victory over 2 rivals, who left early to make the long drive home. Mike Hiss took a terrific win in the Novice class. Also congrats to Taeylor Laforest and Kaiden Hendrickson on making it on the podium. In the Open 2WD Short Course class it was Jessica Iler putting in a great effort to finish 1st overall. Vince McMahon finished 2nd and Bobby Lafrate 3rd. In Open Stadium Truck it was a terrific 2-way duel for the win with TQ Trevor Schaeffer and Kiarra Hold. Kiarra would have a slow start, but finish strong chasing down the leader, Trevor. Trevor would hold off the late charge to take the win with Kiarra 2nd. Justin Olds ran well and finished 3rd overall. Source: JConcepts [jconcepts.net] |

British Xray Racing Series GP – Report Posted: 07 Sep 2017 01:39 AM PDT The 2nd annual British Xray Racing Series GP was held at the Cotswolds model car club and it was a weekend of polar opposite weather conditions. Saturday’s practice day was ran in glorious sunshine allowing racers to get in seven rounds of practice. The pit chatter was that Sunday was to be wet. But racers had been assured that the straw bales in a neighbouring field wouldn’t have been left out by the farmer if rain was expected. So on that advice everyone went home happy thinking they were in for another day like Saturday. Well how wrong was that farmer. Sunday started wet and Sunday finished wet. But this is Britain, nobody stopped racing for a bit of rain in fact they don’t stop racing even for a lot of rain. With a stiff upper lip the drivers raced the Sunday away. And proceeded to run four rounds of qualification with two from four to count and two finals. The premier speed class of the XRS is Modified. Not only does it look crazy fast and exciting in the dry it looks even more insane in the wet. Local UK star Olly Jefferies proved yet again this year he’s almost unbeatable. Factory team racer Alex Hagberg kept him honest proving even Euros can race in the wet. Ultimately it was Olly with the win from Alex 2nd and Alex Gardiner in 3rd. Boosted being the second most popular class at the XRS it was also well contested. Zak Finlay proves not only can he be consistent in the dry but he can be in the wet also and so Zak took the TQ and win from Dan Blake 2nd and Mark Wallace 3rd. The biggest class at this year’s XRS being the Blinky class. Track regular Richard King took the TQ but couldn’t hold back a rampant Jan Ratheisky, who flew in late and got his bags lost by the airline meaning he had to attend with borrowed material courtesy of the very helpful racers around him. Jan started from 8th on the grid after experiencing electrical issues during qualification. Richard ultimately came in 2nd from Sam Nichols 3rd. Local wet weather racer James Millbank took the top spot on the Formula podium, pre-race favourites Luke Lee and Jan Ratheisky suffered from electrical issues dropping them out of contention and making way for James Greener and Lee Owen Mostly. The Nitro class provided all the smell and noise of real racing. Club member and local Mark Owen took the win from TQ Alex Hagberg after Alex experienced some engine stalls from the wet weather as Mat Cook took the final podium spot. Source: Xray [teamxray.com] |
