Tamiya Porsche Turbo RSR Type 934 Black Edition

Tamiya’s Porsche Turbo RSR Type 934 TA02SW Black Edition is a special color variation version of the Porsche Turbo RSR Type 934 Jägermeister. This variant uses brand new gold color stickers designed to accentuate a black color scheme. The TA02SW exhibits a short-wheelbase and has a wide track to accommodate the scale form of the real Porsche sports car. It normally features a tub chassis with 4-wheel, fully independent suspension coupled with a rear ball differential and a front gear type differential. This special edition is fitted with a double deck FRP chassis for increased rigidity and a few hop-up options. The kit will hit stores about mid-October.

TLR 22-4 low-profile body – Teaser image

Team Losi Racing have released a first image of their forthcoming low-profile body shell for the 22-4 1/10th 4WD buggy. Making its debut during this week’s 2017 ROAR Electric Off-road Nationals, the 22 4.0 inspired shell features a lower cab section, and no vertically fin, making for a more flowing and better rotating body when compared to the cab forward offering. TLR’s JP Richards was the first to run the body in practice and says: “First glance, the body has that new sleek and edgy design. Then you hit the track and it really helps the car have a fluent feel, with a good balance of steering, stability, and traction without the overbearing feel of a tall front cab.” The body is roughly scheduled for a late 2017 release.

Team C 4-gear gearbox support plate

Coming soon from Team C is a carbon fibre gearbox support plate for their 4-gear 2WD buggy transmission. The set includes a machined carbon fibre plate, orange anodised aluminium spacers as well as longer screws and it is understood that using the parts with keep the gearbox case from twisting under load which will result in more consistent gear mesh and thus gear life and efficiency.

Gary Huang wins at 2017 Shepherd Cup

The 2017 Shepherd Cup was held in Hong Kong last weekend and the event saw Gary Hunang (Xray) taking the 1/8th Nitro On-road TQ after the three qualifiers. In the 45-minute main final Gary opted to change tyres around the 25-minute mark and he would take the win some four laps in front of Hui Zhan Hao (Serpent) and Ng Chiu Man (Serpent).

Muchmore Fleta ZX V2 6.5T Type-R 1/12th scale motor

Muchmore Racing are busy adding more variants of the new Fleta ZX V2 motor to their portfolio with the latest outcome being the 1S optimised 6.5T Type-R for 1/12th scale pan cars. Making use of the same teardown as the previous modified variants, the Type-R is specially tuned for 1-cell applications such as 1/12th scale modified classes thanks to a specific stator and rotor combination, resulting in smooth and controllable acceleration.

Soren Boy Holst wins at Danish EP On-road Nats Rd3

The third round of the Danish Electric On-road Nationals was held at the Glostrup Racing Club in difficult weather conditions. Saturday’s practice sessions were interrupted by the unavoidable rain but thankfully the track is known to dry up pretty fast and so a reasonable amount of runs could be completed. Sunday started off dry but the qualifiers again had their wet moments and in the end it was Xray driver Kevin Nielsen who made the best out of the conditions, taking the TQ from Xray teammate Patrick Danielsen and VBC Racing’s Soren Boy Holst.

In the opening A-main TQ holder Kevin had some problems due to a dirty track and he would finish 3rd behind Stefan Finnich and A1 winner, Soren Boy Holst. A2 went better for Kevin who lead all the way from start to finish with Patrick Danielsen and Frederik Brolos Mikkelsen coming in 2nd and 3rd. In the decisive third final Kevin looked to bag the overall win but in the closing stages he got hit from behind, was send into the grass and ended the race on the 4 spot while up front Frederik took the win in front of Soren. Ultimately Soren would take the win in the Super Stock class from Kevin in 2nd and Frederik 3rd.

FX low-profile engine cooling heads

FX have introduced a range of low-profile engine cooling heads for their range of .21 off-road engines. Machined from high-quality 7075-T6 aluminium and coming black anodised and laser-engraved for looks, the cooling heads are available in a 6-rib variant for cooler ambient temperatures, as 7-rib head for medium air temperatures and as 8-rib variant for hot racing conditions. Using the heads over the traditional tall head will lower the overall centre of gravity and weight thanks to the low-profile design and additional weight-saving machining. To further assist with cooling the head’s black coating is machined away in the contact area between the head and the combustion camber insert.

TLR 22 4.0 SR 2WD Spec Racing buggy race kit

Coming soon from TLR is the 22 4.0 SR spec racing buggy. Based off of the standard 4.0 the SR was specifically designed for the 17.5T Stock racing class, with an under-ROAR weight and option parts right out of the box. The kit takes the drastic improvements made in the on-track performance of the new 22 4.0 and maximised the drivetrain for spec racing. The car has shed weight by replacing carefully chosen stock 22 4.0 parts with the transmission boast the biggest gains where a direct drive system with a shortened top shaft, an aluminium diff with composite outdrives and aluminium CVA driveshafts with lightened steel axles have minimised overall weight and rotating mass.

A laydown transmission moves the motor forward by +20mm to a central motor location and provides two diff heights-standard of 3.0mm and +3.5mm for carpet and Astroturf. This creates a chassis that drives much flatter, more consistent and corners quicker, especially on throttle which is critical for spec racing. With the recommended Team Orion and Spektrum electronics the buggy weighs in at 1498g using the included 0.5mm ultra lightweight body shell. The kit is set for a release about mid-September.

BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals Rd6 – Report

The weather forecast for round 6 of the BRCA 1/8th Circuit Nationals was mainly showers although nearly fifty drivers across the two classes made the trip to Wombwell, near Barnsley. The circuit is likened by many for its combination of high speed straight which utilises the karting circuit and then a medium speed infield with undulations making it very testing. On arrival, the track was damp on Saturday morning which saw many of the electric class runners preparing their wet cars as the forecast was indifferent for the whole weekend. By midday the track was dry. In the electric class, it was Alex Thurston and Adam Catchpole setting the pace with Pete Hastings and Dan Jones not too far behind them. With 17 entrants and times being so close, a place in the A-final would be tight for some. In the Nitro class, Andy Hastings was out to make up for his Halifax poor showing but the man on form, David Spashett, was again going to be the man to beat. Quick as ever were Tim Wood, Neal King and Mark Green, running the new Serpent chassis.

After heavy rain Saturday evening, Sunday morning greeted the drivers with breezy wind and sunshine. Qualifying went by with no real issues for most drivers. In the electric class, Alex was on pole with Adam 2nd and Pete 3rd. Phil Hague and Russ Giles picked up the hotly contested last 2 places in the A final. In nitro, David Spashett pipped Tim Wood to pole position with Neal King a further second behind from Mark Green and Andy Hastings. Karl Dransfield had a successful first meeting, running Capricorn, taking 8th spot with Richard Hicklin grabbing the last place in the A-final.

The nitro A-final started with Spashett’s engine cutting, losing him around three laps, and this left Tim Wood out front until he hit issues and had to retire. Andy Hastings, with his Shepherd, drove a faultless race to win after leading almost all of the race. Tyre wear was high with some drivers having to make changes. Neal King made it a Shepherd 1-2 and Mark Green took the final podium position for Serpent in 3rd. David Spashett recovered to take 4th with Richard Hicklin 5th.

Before the electric A-final leg 1, the drizzle had started and the track surface was slippery but not enough for a wet race. Alex got away clean with Adam in tow but behind them it all got messy for the first few laps and three cars retired early. Alex took the win with Adam 2nd and Keiran Adamson 3rd. In the A-final leg 2, with the weather very grey but dry, Alex and Adam again were away clean, driving fast but smooth and making it look easy. Dan Jones and Jamie Paton had a close race for a while until Dan pulled away to finish 3rd in this leg. Overall, it was a complete Serpent podium with 1st Alex Thurston, 2nd Adam Catchpole and 3rd Dan Jones.

For the next round, the championship return to the Brookland circuit in Kent which will be new to many drivers, the circuit having had facilities and surfaced updated. This will also be the first race at the circuit for electric 1/8th scale cars so it will be a steep learning curve for them all.

SWorkz S35-3T nitro truggy – Coming soon

Following a first teaser image, SWorkz have released more renderings of their forthcoming S35-3T 1/8th scale nitro off-road truggy. The newly developed vehicle will utilise design features taken over from the S35 series buggies, such as the ability to easily add balance weights to the rear part of the chassis, it will come with an angled engine mount as well as many other features. More information will become available in time for the release, although a date has not been given yet.
