Posted: 22 Jul 2017 09:49 AM PDT

Xray Factory driver JJ Wang continued to stamp his authority on the event as he took another round of qualifying in the modified class at the 3rd round of the 2017 CETC presented by Infinity at RCI V2 in Shanghai. A very consistent round for the Chinese American driver this run however was slower than Q1 due to the mostly unexpected drop in traction. Xray youngster Lao Ming Hao and Awesomatix driver Rocket Zhang maintained their position from the opening round with the former National Champion just 0.2 seconds behind the CETC Rd1 Rising Star winner in 3rd. For this round Yokomo driver Motor King managed to regain some of his lost practice pace to take 5th place ahead of 2016 Reedy Race Open Modified class Champion Julian Wong. JJ’s mechanic, Xray driver Hara Tune ended the round 7th, with another 3 Xray drivers completing the Top 10, with Canadian driver Mihnea Lupu, Jerry Dai and Nicholas Koh respectively.

STRC 4-Tec 2.0 carbon & aluminium option parts

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 05:00 AM PDT

ST Racing Concepts have announced a range of graphite and CNC-machined aluminium option parts for the Traxxas 4-Tec 2.0 Ford GT and Mustang GT RTR cars. Designed to increase both the performance and durability of Traxxas’s latest on-road platform, first up are carbon fibre front and rear shock towers. They help keeping the suspension functioning properly in soaking up the bumps and providing traction by eliminating the plastic nylon shock towers and replacing them with high quality graphite parts. They are more rigid and do away with unwanted flex, leaving shocks to do their work properly while adding that factory racing look the car. The towers are available separately for the front and rear and they include suitable mounting hardware.

For those who are looking for a bit more bling, STRC have CNC-machined aluminium shock towers available, coming in blue, gun metal, red, and silver anodising. Next up are aluminium front and rear hinge pin blocks. They also function as suspension arm braces, providing more durability for the front and rear suspension in an event of a hard crash. Also new is a machined aluminium steering bellcrank set that replaces the plastic steering, eliminating flex and making for a more efficient transfer of the torque from the steering servo to the wheels. Another suspension upgrade are the front caster blocks whose alloy construction reduces flex and ups durability while the aluminium centre motor mount keeps the gear mesh intact even under hard load wan when running “hot” brushed or brushless motors. The above alloy options are available in blue, gun metal, red, and silver anodising.

JConcepts 190mm touring car body shell – First images

Posted: 22 Jul 2017 04:14 AM PDT

Spotted on the car of Serpent’s Felix Law at the latest round of the CETC at RCI V2 in Shanghai is a 190mm touring car body shell from JConcepts. Still in development it is exciting to see that the off-road specialist is entering the on-road market with a somewhat unique looking shell that features a very characteristic front section that is significantly longer compared to current bodies. The idea behind the design is to do away with the need for extremely forward mounted bodies, which is done to gain further steering emphasis, keeping the overall appearance intact and the wheel houses where they belong. Nevertheless Felix’ prototype body still is being mounted a tad forward here in Shanghai as you can see from our images. Other design elements include a very pronounced grill section, ribbing in front of the windscreen for improved stability as well as an anti-tuck rear bumper section. We are not allowed to do close up photos but we bring you more information on the project’s development as soon as they surface.
