Yeah Racing have released new height adjustable aluminium servo mounts for 1/10th scale vehicles. Machined from aluminium and coming anodised in a range of colours including orange, blue and black the mounts are perfect replacements for plastic servo mount brackets found on some older spec kits. Using the alloy parts will make for a more solid servo installation, resulting in a more crisp steering reaction especially when using high-power servos. Included with the mounts comes suitable mounting hardware.

Round 3 of the French Nitro Buggy National Championship as held at the CAV de Viglain track this past weekend. In the premier Elite class Team Associated’s Tom Robin took a popular TQ in front of some of the country’s fastest drivers and in the 45-minute main final Tom was able to conserve his performance, bringing home the win some ten seconds in from of TLR’s Renaud Savoya while Xray driver Yannick Aigoin snatched the final podium spot some two laps down.

Marc Rheinard has claimed a sixth Reedy Race of Champions title, the race’s most celebrated champion wrapping up victory at the 20th edition of the legendary event in style with his 7th win of the weekend in the penultimate round of the heads up racing format.  First crowned Reedy Race Champion in 2006, that win also at the historic Tamiya Raceway, Rheinard’s latest victory sees him extend his record tally of wins having surpassed 4-time Champion Barry Baker as the races most successful driver with his last win in 2015. The German’s win also marked the first major international title for touring car newcomers Infinity for whom the 4-time World Champion only signed for earlier this year after his unprecedented professional stint with Tamiya came to an end at the end of 2016.

The AME shock rebuild station is a clever tool to arrange AME shock absorbers while building, maintenance and setup. The compact shock stand is made of machined, black anodised aluminium and high-quality carbon fibre and it takes up to four touring car shock absorbers – for example while filling them with shock fluid or to let any air bubbles disappear when not using a vacuum pump. The lower alloy parts tray can be used to store small parts during building but it can also be used to drain shock oil into it during shock rebuilding. The tool is easy to disassemble using a single screw and the compact dimensions make storing the rebuild station a no-brainer. While being designed for AME’s own shocks the tool also works with many other 1/10th scale dampers.

The opening round of the 2017 NRW Cup was held at the high-grip astro turf track of the M.A.C.H.-One Helmond track in the Netherlands with over 90 entries from Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. During Saturday’s practice and first qualifier everybody was struggling with the high temperatures of over 30 degree Celsius which made for high traction. On Sunday morning though the drivers were greeted by a wet track and the following two qualifiers would be run in wet conditions. For the finals the track had dried up again and in the premier OR8T “Top” Nitro Buggy class it was Agama’s Bart Mullink who made the best out of the changing conditions as he took the win from the Xray duo of Sander van Genechten and Jarno Pijpers in 2nd and 3rd respectively.

The OR8H “Hobby” class was won by Jan Nickels who lead a Mugen 1-2-3 with Thomas Wernich and Markus Bierholz coming in 2nd and 3rd to round out the podium. Finally in the OR8E E-Buggy class it was Colin Meijer who took the win with his Serpent from Kim Einert (Kyosho) 2nd and Andreas Meyer (Mugen) 3rd.

The recent Rocky Mountain Meltdown Race was held in Calgary, AB in great weather conditions. In Nitro Buggy Xray’s Ty Tessmann made a clean sweep in the qualifiers, taking all three rounds of qualifying for the overall TQ. Starting from pole position into the main, Ty would never look back to take the win from the Team Associated duo of Eric Hardy and Peter Tozser.

The opening round of the Czech Xray Racing Series was held at the Celakovice track this past weekend. In the premier Electric Touring Open class it was Jirka Vysin who took the overall win from Marcel Dostal in 2nd and Jan Kanina 3rd. Miroslav Cerv and Miroslav Loupy would round out the top 5 result.

The Touring Stock 13.5T class was run with XRS HW XR10 Justock motor and speed controller combos which lead to very equal speeds on the straight and thus close racing. Ultimately Michal Kneys would prevail as the took the day’s win from Jirka Svobody in 2nd and Dusan Andrle in 3rd.

The second round of the Austrian Nitro On-road Nationals was hosted by the Mistelbacher Model Car Club over the weekend. In the 200mm Nitro Touring class Leonardo Varga and Kurt Hubeny ended the qualifiers tie on points with the better tie-breaker handing Leonardo the overall TQ position. In the 30-minute long main final though it was Kurt Hubeny (Serpent) who would come out successful, some two laps in front of Shepherd’s Gerhard Kandelhart while Franz Engel (Shepherd) ended the race another three laps down in 3rd.

Kyosho have officially introduced the new PureTen GP V-One R4s II 1/10th nitro on-road car kit. Having been at the forefront of the racing scene for rubber-tyred racing models, the V-One R4s has taken another evolutionary step with the R4s II. In addition to the incorporation of key components from the highest specification version of the V-One R4 Evo, the R4s received shorter oil-filled shocks as used in the electric classes. Both lowers the centre of gravity and increases manoeuvrability while in addition, the shape of the radio plate combines with main chassis material and weight reduction grooves, based on the Evo chassis design, to effectively use chassis roll and mechanical grip to deliver improved overall performance.

Outgoing champion Ronald Volker and Viktor Wilck joined newly crowned 6-time Reedy Race Champion Marc Rheinard on the podium at Tamiya Raceway as the 12th & final round of racing at the legendary event determined Volker won the battle for second overall.  With Rheinard putting the title to bed early with his 7th win of the weekend in the penultimate round of racing, the interest of the concluding three races was on the podium battle between Volker, Wilck and Nicholas Lee.  Running in the first heat Lee, a winner of 3-races, would finish second behind Naoki Akiyama, with him having to wait to see if that was enough for him to make the Top 3.  Next up it was Wilck’s turn to see what he could do, the Swede claiming a 3rd from 6th on the grid with Jan Ratheisky taking the win.  Getting to go last, running in the last of the weekends 36 races, Volker had the advantage of knowing what he needed to do and duly brought home a P2 behind Ryan Cavalieri to secure second overall.  For Wilck and Lee it would come down to the tie breaker with Wilck’s extra win giving him the final step on the podium.  With Lee fourth, Day 1 overnight leader Meen Vejrak would finish 5th ahead of Akio Sobue, Sobue’s result combined with team-mate Rheinard’s win claiming the title of Manufacturers Champion for event debutants Infinity.  Having completely forgotten about the Manufacturers title despite winning it for Tamiya last year, Rheinard said, ‘this is a crazy achievement. I didn’t even think about until they announced we had won.  It further shows we are on the right direction.  Even though Akio was super unlucky today we still managed to become Manufacturers Champions, it caps off an great weekend for the team’.

Commenting on finishing runner-up, Volker said, ‘I knew I needed a P4 to secure second overall and off the line everything went well.  I was chasing Cav but could attack as he was just too quick’, the World Champion adding, ‘he should do more touring car’.  A 3-time Reedy Race Champion, the Yokomo driver said, ‘P2 overall was the maximum I could get this time because we struggled for pace in a few runs.  Aside from Round 11 I did good runs but Marc was fast all the time and didn’t have back luck so he is deserved to win’.  With his team-mate Lee missing out on the podium, he said, ‘In my opinion Viktor got a bit too lucky to finish on the podium as the referee didn’t see a couple things like his Round 12 corner cut.  I’m sorry for Nicholas that he got P4’.  Summing up the 20th Reedy Race of Champions, this its best entry of the current decade, he said, ‘this is the best racing we have in the year and maybe it is time to change the format of other events.  The amount of action and fun we have here is amazing’.

Reacting to making the podium, Wilck said, ‘my thinking before the race was a Top 10 if all goes well.  We were actually surprised by the performance of the car here and it was fun racing for the title’.  The Serpent driver continued, ‘a couple of races I had issues with others and my own driving and without this for sure it could have been close with Marc.  He still would have won because he had perfect races and was also the fastest on the track. Still it was good to finish on the podium’.

With one of the 24 spots for the Invitational Reedy Race of Champions going to the winner of the supporting Open Modified Class, Jin Sawada booked his place on the 2017 entry with victory over Offroad World Champion Spencer Rivikin.  With Sawada taking the TQ, the Destiny driver won the opening A-Main but Rivkin took A2 to force the fight to A3.  While Rivkin would pressure the Japanese driver for the entire race he would hold on for the win much to the absolute delight of mentor Terutaka Hanaumi.  Joining him & Rivkin the podium would be Singapore driver Dominic Quek.

‘I’m super happy to win a 6th title.  This is one of my favourites race every year. I just love the heads up racing, even starting at the back of the grid because it’s a challenge to work your way to the front’, was Rheinard’s reaction after sealing up the title in Round 11 of 12.  His fourth time to win it at Tamiya Raceway, and this the most competitive field of invitation drivers this decade, he continued, ‘My car worked from the beginning to the end, all our cars worked well and even though its not about being the fastest I think we also had this too. The whole team did a great job, for sure luck needs to be on your side but thats what makes the Reedy Race.  To come here with a new team and giving them their first major win makes this one extra special, we have been close in the ETS but finally Infinity has got a big win’.

While Rheinard celebrated regaining the title he lost to Ronald Volker, the outgoing champion was far from happy with what happened to him in the penultimate round.  Having pretty much conceded defeat to his long standing rival last night when Rheinard took the overnight points lead, Volker is battling for the runner-up spot with Viktor Wilck but was far from impressed with the standard of driving.  With Wilck having a bad result in Heat 2 of Round 11 finishing 7th, it was an opportunity for Volker, running in Heat 3, to sew up the second spot on the podium however he would have an altercation with Bruno Coelho leading to a spectacular exit from the race when he had contact with Freddy Sudhoff at the end of the straight.  ‘I can’t believe what just happened’, was the World Champion’s reaction afterwards.  He continued, ‘there was 4-minutes to go and I was behind Randy (Caster) but Bruno just ran over me.  I can’t believe he was so impatient, there was so much time left.  After the spin from Bruno I went on to the straight side by side with Freddy.  I should have lifted because I was on the outside but I guess I was too worked up because of the Bruno incident.  I made the wrong decision, it was my first big mistake of the event.  I hope the car is alright for Round 12 and I can maintain 2nd’.

Asked about his race, Wilck said, ‘JJ (Wang) rolled and I had to go around him.  After that delay I was trying to pass Viljami and my car rolled over’.  Sitting a point off Volker, he concluded, ‘its going to be an interesting final round’.  Having looked like their battle was over whether they stood left or right of Rheinard on the podium, their bad results and a P2 for Nicholas Lee means the Singapore driver could take one of their places which adds some extra interest to the closing races.

With just two rounds of racing to go at the Reedy Race of Champions in California, Marc Rheinard has moved closer to becoming champion of the legendary race with a victory in Round 10 of 12.  Starting from pole, the Infinity driver took an easy win ahead of Day 2 title challenger Viktor Wilck, and with 6-wins to his credit needs just one more good result to wrap up the 20th edition of the race.  While Volker would match Rheinard, also converting his TQ staring position to a win, the defending champion’s 4th victory only strengthened his quest for the runners-up spot against Wilck rather than put any pressure on Rheinard going into the closing stages of the event.  A key figure in the organisation of the Reedy Race, this the 10th running of the event at the historic Tamiya Raceway, Rick Hohwart would win the third encounter of the round to become the 12th driver of the 24 invite drivers to post a win.

‘I used the No.1 spot well’, was Rheinard’s reaction to his latest win.  Not yet ready to accept his 6th title is all but in the bag, he added, ‘I will try to repeat it in the next one, I start again from pole’.  Summing up his Round 10 performance he said, ‘I struggled a bit at the beginning, I didn’t drive perfect lines.  When Akio rolled I was worried Viktor might come to the front but my car was good so it was easy to the end’.

Giving a summary of his race, 3-time Reedy Champion Volker said, ‘I started first and got a good start but lacked traction again so we need to change the set-up again’.  With Yokomo team-mate Christopher Krapp starting 2nd alongside him, he continued, ‘Christopher wasn’t attacking so it was one of the less stressful races of the event for me.  Unfortunately for Nicholas (Lee) he fell to the back in the same heat and lost his chance of fighting for the podium’.  Starting the final two races from 4th and 6th respectively, he said, ‘I am not looking at Marc. I will try to make Top 2 finishes in the next two rounds and see what will come from that’.  Sitting one point behind Volker with whom he will battle it out for the runners up spot, Wilck said, ‘Its just down to the last two races but you don’t know whats going to happen, you could make a mistake or get caught up in a crash, so all can happen but we don’t drive together (same heat) anymore’.  The Serpent driver will finish out the event with two 6th place starting spots.

‘Finally I got a win in’ was how Hohwart reacted to his win.  The Reedy/Team Associated driver continued, ‘I started at the front before but made some mistakes.  The cars & drivers are so close when your running 6th or 7th there is not much you can do if somebody makes a mistake but I would say the real issue has been my own mistakes’.  A former Offroad Reedy Race Champion, ‘I don’t come here looking to win, a Top 5 would be a dream result, a Top 10 is were I hope to be at.  We don’t do the ETS so we don’t get to race with these drivers so it great to test yourself against the very best drivers’.
