Blaze Racing Longsword 235 wide Pro10 car kit

Posted: 03 May 2017 10:52 AM PDT

Blaze Racing from Poland have introduced their new 235mm wide Longsword 235 Pro10 pan car kit. The car utilises a conventional link-type rear end design and a CRC front end in combination with a 3mm carbon fibre chassis and front suspension plate. The rear roll damper plate, designed to also protect the rear axle, as well as the centre shock plate, are cut from even thicker 3.5mm carbon fibre for outstanding rigidity. The power pod is of a sliding axle mount design for virtually step-less ride height adjustments while the rear brace also allows to mount a motor cooling fan from stock. The main chassis accepts a variety of battery configurations including dual 96mm 2S LiPo shorty packs, 2S inline, 1S and 2S shorty transversal as well as front or rear mounted 2S shorty packs to name just a few. The kit is rounded out by a wide 3mm fibre glass front bumper that protects the front suspension from heavy impacts. The kit is available from now on.

Xray GTX8 1/8th nitro GT car kit

Posted: 03 May 2017 07:49 AM PDT

Following a couple of teaser images Xray have finally unveiled their all-new GTX8 1/8th nitro GT car kit. Developed for the ever-growing 1/8th GT class the car is based off of the European Championship winning XB8 off-road buggy and it sports several on-road specific features to adapt the car to the requirements of competition on-road racing. The kit is based on a hard-coated 7075-T6 aluminium chassis that features strategically machined sections for a reduced weight and lower centre of gravity of the components such as the engine, fuel tank and differentials. The composite side guards can be equipped with optional carbon fibre braces to adjust the overall chassis stiffness.

The car uses composite front and rear chassis braces with the rear one accepting an optional carbon fibre stiffener to further adjust the overall chassis flex and stiffness. On the suspension side of things the GTX8 utilises a front pivot ball suspension with horizontal lower and vertical upper pivot balls. The suspension is highly adjustable in terms of toe, wheelbase, anti-squat, anti-dive, caster, camber, track width, roll centre as well as kinkpin angle to ensure the car can be adapted to a variety of track conditions. Composite inserts for the upper and lower inner suspension mounts ensure quick, easy and reliable setup changes. Part of the suspension package are also aluminium suspension mounts, carbon fibre shock towers and short aluminium shock absorbers. The latter are of an oversized 18.5mm diameter for improved damping characteristics, they feature aluminium upper and lower caps and are utilise optional 6, 8 and 10-hole shock pistons. The front steering blocks and rear uprights are of a hybrid design with composite main bodies and upper alloy plates that built a solid base for the pivot balls.

On the drivetrain side of things the GTX8 utilises front and rear gear differentials with a 46T/14T gear combination as well as a 2-speed gearbox. Power is supplied to the wheels using CV-style spring steel front, rear and centre driveshafts. The clutch is of a 3-shoe type with all-aluminium clutch shoes although optional graphite and high-torque alloy shoes are available separately for set-up purposes. The 2-speed transmission was adapted from Xray’s on-road gearbox and features changeable main gears to adjust the overall gear ratio to suit different track layouts from tight and twitchy to open and fast flowing.

The car’s radio box is a 1-piece assembly that is easily detachable from the chassis for cleaning and maintenance. The steering and throttle/brake servos are mounted in an upright position while the receiver battery and receiver boxes are of an enclosed design to keep dust, dirt and moisture away from the delicate electronics. A connecting servo brace compensates the softer, more flexible radio box that ensures natural chassis flex while also eliminating throttle servo vibrations from the chassis. The feature will help to ensure more precise throttle and brake control.

The kit is rounded out by a 150cc fuel tank, with a 125cc variant being available separately, front and rear anti-roll bars keep the chassis roll at a controlled level and a composite bumper mount with foam bumper protects the chassis and body during severe crashes. Not included in the kit is Xray’s all-new GT body shell you can see in the images below.

Schumacher BTCC Rd1 – Report

Posted: 03 May 2017 06:28 AM PDT

Round 1 of the 2017 Schumacher BTCC was held at the slightly revised Aldershot racing circuit. The fast chicane as you come on to the main straight has been slightly changed, meaning all drivers would have to start from scratch to find the fast and consistent lines. There were drivers in attendance on Saturday for some practice and to get their cars set up to their liking and to master the chicane. On to Sunday and race day, the weather was dry but it was quite windy which seemed to affect the cars as they went round the fast circuit. Due to slightly lower entry numbers for this round, it was decided the qualifying format was round by round and two from four to count towards the final qualifying position.

As for the results, in Touring Modified it was Dave Pitcher on pole, from Alex Gardiner and Ashley Sully-Hicks and after the finals the results would be the same with Dave coming in 1st from Alex and Ashley.

The 13.5 boosted class would see Tim Hancock on pole from Jay Westwood and Damian Giddins and again the final top 3 would be a copy of the qualifying result with Tim, Jay and Damian coming in 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the 13.5 blinky class Matt Quinlisk would line up on pole ahead of Jamie Vassallo and Jason Butterfield. The finals brought a bit of a mix-up with Matt still in front but Ben Cane coming in 2nd and Jamie Vassallo dropping one place to 3rd.

Finally and in the 17.5 blinky class, drawing the largest number of entries, Glenn Westwood would dominate qualifying all day and take TQ in all 4 rounds ahead of Richard Brown and Joe Jenyavanija. After the finals Glenn was still on top with Joe Jenyavanija coming in 2nd and David Clift 3rd.

The next round will be at Bedworth on Sunday 28th May. Entries still available on what will be the last event at the current club.
