Essex Carpet Clash Rd5 – Report

Posted: 07 Feb 2020 01:10 AM PST

Round 5 of the popular Essex Carpet Clash took place last weekend, with a track layout with a couple of jump sections that many found difficult to master. In 2WD Buggy Ellis Stafford confirmed his pole position for the finals, by taking rounds 1, 2 and 3 of qualifying. Kyle Moon lined up 2nd after being at the top of the score sheets consistently in qualifying. Stephen Brown also up at the sharp end of qualifying managed to line-up 3rd just ahead of Christopher Delves. In 4WD, it was a three-way battle for pole position. With Mark Lewis topping the score sheets in round one. Stephen Brown then took the second round but it was John painter who has been fast all season, managing to take the last two rounds of qualifying and giving him pole position for the final. Brown would line-up 2nd on the grid with Lewis in 3rd only separated by half a second on the count back scoring system. Jamie pickles would line-up 4th.

In the 2WD A-mains Stafford managed to take leg one with a comfortable lead, while a fast Jimmy Whitehall negotiated his way to take 2nd. With a couple of errors from everyone during the run, Brown managed to secure the win in leg 2, beating Whitehall across the line by 0.3 of a second. It was all down to legs 3 to finalise the podium positions for the day. Stafford managed to hold on to the one spot in front of a chasing Moon in 2nd. Jimmy Whitehall came across the line in 3rd, having another top 3 finishing position. Overall it was Ellis Stafford with the win from 2nd placed Jimmy Whitehall and Stephen Brown in 3rd.

John Painter having had a very successful qualifying, narrowly missing out on a double a final in both classes, would continue his success and confirm the win for the day by taking the first two leg wins in 4WD. Mark Lewis was able to secure 2nd place overall, taking the last leg of the finals, after battling consistently with Stephen Brown, who ended the day in 3rd. Jamie Pickles having had a decent day narrowly missing out on a podium position, finished 4th.

The last round of the championship is in a month’s time. 2WD will come down to the wire and the last meeting to confirm the top 3 podium positions. 4WD is close and will sort out the bottom steps of the podium.

RPM N20 Resto-Mod 26mm touring car wheels

Posted: 07 Feb 2020 12:01 AM PST

RPM have announced the release of their new N20 Resto-Mod 26mm touring car wheels specifically designed for the Kyosho Fazer Mk2 but fitting other 1/10th touring cars too. N₂O is the chemical formula for Nitrous Oxide, one of the most powerful fuel additives on the planet. And now it’s also the formula for one of the best-looking resto-mod wheels from RPM. The wheels are sold in pairs and designed specifically for the Kyosho Fazer Mk2 line but will fit many sedans running 26mm wide wheels, however in some cases spacers may be necessary for hex nut style axles. Wheel offset is +4.7mm and RPM recommends 64mm diameter tyres for Kyosho models such as the Chevelle, Charger, Camaro and Hellcat, although 67mm gives a taller sidewall for a beefier stance. The wheels are available in black or chrome colour.

Castle Creations Mamba Monster X 8S speed controller

Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:42 PM PST

Castle Creations have introduced their new Mamba Monster X 8S LiPo-compatible brushless speed controller for 1/6th scale applications. The ESC utilises Castle’s Cryo-Drive technology that, by reducing the rate at which the ESC heats up and removing heat more efficiently, the setup will be able to handle higher gear ratios, in heavier vehicles, with longer runs. These software advancements work in parallel with a unique open housing design to allow increased directional airflow to cool critical components. With the integration of a 40mm cooling fan and a forged elliptical fin heatsink, the design maximises airflow throughout the system, taking thermal performance to a whole new level. Constructed around a robust aluminium casing, epoxy potting guarantees protection around the circuitry and ensures all-weather use. Owners can also easily optimise the ESC for any driving condition, from rugged terrain to smooth pavement to the perils of rock and gravel. They can create, save and download setup profiles through the Castle Link Programming Suite on a Windows PC, or wirelessly with the convenience of the new B-Link Bluetooth Adapter and Castle Link app for Android or iOS.

Additional tuning flexibility awaits drivers with on-the-fly adjustments from their transmitter via the Auxiliary wire that allows to access programming parameters such as Torque Control, Max Brake or Rock Race Mode. When paired with a Castle 4-pole 12-slot sensored motor, such as the 2028-800KV or 1515-2200KV, users with heavy, high speed rigs will experience controllable low-end ranges without sacrificing power, punch or speed. The SmartSense mode uses the motor’s sensors to start the motor to provide smooth starts, excellent torque, and low-speed drivability. Once the motor is spinning, it seamlessly transitions to Castle’s ultra-efficient sensorless mode.

Features:
– Input voltage range 2S-8S LiPo
– Sensorless, sensored and SmartSense running modes
– Powerful integrated 8A peak adjustable BEC (5.25V-8.0V)
– CRYO-DRIVE Technology minimises the amount of time the ESC’s electrical components spend generating heat, resulting in improved thermal performance during partial throttle operation where the majority of driving occurs
– ESC is housed in a rugged CNC aluminium case and potted in waterproof epoxy to protect the electronics and promote efficient heat transfer
– Premium forged heatsink with elliptical fins for superior air flow and increased heat dissipation
– Oversized factory equipped thermally controlled 40mm cooling fan
– Compatible with S.BUS2 Telemetry Link and Futaba T4PX and T7PX transmitters
– Waterproof design for all weather conditions
– Data logging capability to capture and record performance data from your vehicle
– Auxiliary wire functionality for “on-the-fly” adjustments using your transmitter
– Audible alerts for easy diagnosis of common issues such as motor-over-temperature and low-voltage cutoff
– Convenient transmitter programming for six common adjustable settings including cutoff voltage and drag brake
– Easily tune and update ESC with USB and Bluetooth programming options
– Castle Link USB programming kit (coupon included with purchase)
– Optional smartphone-based programming with the B-Link Bluetooth Adapter (sold separately and Castle Link all available on Google Play or Apple App Store)
– Proudly designed and manufactured in Olathe, KS USA and backed by Castle Creations’ 1-year warranty
