Posted: 07 Jan 2020 11:27 AM PST

Exotek have introduced their new line of 2-colour aluminium option parts for the HB Racing D819 and E819 buggies. First up is a ball-raced heavy-duty steering crank set machined from high-quality 7075 aluminium. Usable for the HB Racing D819, E819, D817, and E817 series of buggies and trucks the steering set includes bearings and crush sleeves to convert the vehicle’s steering to be bushing free for long wear and less slop. The aluminium parts come polished and anodised in black with custom orange chamfers. Also new is a heavy-duty 7075 machined alloy steering brace plate for the D819, E819, D817, and E817 series of buggies and trucks. The plate adds visual impact and it comes anodised black with orange edge details. Last but not least is a factory style heavy-duty 7075 alloy centre bulkhead set for the electric E819 and E817 series of buggies and trucks. The alloy construction maintains proper gear mesh for longer gear life and reduces the chance of stripped screws coming loose in a race. Like the other parts the bulkheads come black anodised and with orange edge details.

Michael Lee dominates UK Formula Indoor Nationals Rd2

Posted: 07 Jan 2020 06:35 AM PST

The BRCA F1 Indoor National Championship made its way to the Sheffield RC Racing Club for round 2 of the series last weekend. With championship leader Ben Cosgrove unable to make the meeting it was going to be a round that would shake up the title race. The field were greeted with a fast flowing track that had lower grip levels than the previous round. Major setup changes would be needed to get the new Volante tyres working. With grip levels building up, the first round of qualifying was very open. Stephen Lander was the driver to handle the conditions best and the only one to break into 22 laps. James Greener and Michael Lee weren’t far behind though. Round 2 saw another increase in grip and allowed pre-race favourite Michael Lee to take control with a time that was over a lap faster. He continued this strong run in the third round to take the overall TQ. Stephen Lander had just managed to beat Graham to make sure he would be next in line on the grid. James Greener and Lee Carter would be the other hopefuls in 4th and 5th places respectively.

In the A-finals Michael Lee controlled the first leg perfectly, Stephen Lander suffered a poor start that pushed him to the back of the grid. Over the five minute race he managed to pull himself up to third but there was no catching a flawless run to second by Graham Raistrick. In the second leg Michael was surprised by a great move from Stephen which dropped him to second. But Stephen’s lead only lasted two laps as Michael executed a perfect move into the centre chicane to take the lead. From there Stephen tried to stay with him but was force to race defensively when Graham started attacking. For half of the race the trio held an impressive train before a back marker got caught up with Graham. The incident allowed James Greener to move into third. As the leg came to an end it left Michael Lee with a very impressive overall win, Stephen Lander as runner up and Graham Riastrick in 3rd.

Top 3 result:
1. Michael Lee (Xray)
2. Stephen Lander (Capricorn)
3. Graham Raistrick (Xray)

The next round of the championship will be at Hinckley RCCC on Saturday 15 February 2020.

Joona Haatanen doubles at JC Carpet Challenge

Posted: 07 Jan 2020 04:03 AM PST

The JConcepts Carpet Challenge was held in Stockholm, Sweden last weekend with some big names from Northern Europe in attendance. The man to beat was Team Associated’s Joona Haatanen who was hotly contested from new AE teammate, Alexander Landen who was able to TQ two rounds of 2WD qualifying. The overall TQ honours however went to Joona thanks to a quicker tie-breaker. The finals were all preceded by a super pole, so the start order was set by a one lap shoot-out before each round. Alexander managed 2nd place in both the first finals behind Haatanen, and was en route to win the last round after a mistake by Joona, but problem with a lapped car that decided to immediately try to un-lap itself meant that Joona could catch up and make the overtake of the weekend with a huge jump before the straight meant that Alexander had to settle for 2nd in that final as well. Overall and behind Joona and Alexander it was Schumacher’s Pekko Iivonen with the final podium spot.

2WD final results:
1. Joona Haatanen – Team Associated
2. Alexander Landén – Team Associated
3. Pekko Iivonen – Schumacher
4. Wilhelm Skjöldebrand – Team Associated
5. Karri Salmela – Team Associated
6. Lukas Larsson – Team Associated
7. Arttu Syrjänen – Team Associated
8. Nils Gustafsson – Team Associated
9. Martin Johansson Nielsén – Xray
10.Joona Lempiäinen – Team Associated

In 4WD Buggy it was again Joona who set the pace and by taking the opening two A-mains, he took his second title of the weekend. In the last A-main Alexander Landen managed to get into the lead by almost half a lap over Karri Salmela and looked to be on his way to secure 2nd overall when a broken-down car rolled over from the infield right onto the straight when Alexander was passing, with Landen hitting it straight on, breaking his car’s steering, meaning he had limp the buggy home in 2bd place behind Karri, who then took 2nd overall with a 1st and a 3rd place compared to Alexander’s double 2nd place finishes.

4WD final results:
1. Joona Haatanen – Team Associated
2. Karri Salmela – Team Associated
3. Alexander Landén – Team Associated
4. Pekko Iivonen – Schumacher
5. Wilhelm Skjöldebrand – Team Associated
6. Arttu Syrjänen – Team Associated
7. Martin Johansson Nielsén – Team Xray
8. Nils Gustafsson – Team Associated
9. Frank Holmgren – Xray

Thanks to Alexander Landen for the report.

Posted: 07 Jan 2020 03:20 AM PST

Last week we brought you a first image of what was believed to depict Awesomatix’s step into competitive 1/12th scale pan car racing and now things seem to materialise even more. Awesomatix team manager Max Mächler shared an image of his ride for the forthcoming IFMAR 1/12th scale World Championships in the UK – sans electronics but with wheels on, showing the extreme low centre of gravity design of the prototype chassis. No official details are available as of now but with the Worlds kicking off later this week official information and more images shouldn’t be too far off on the horizon.

2019/20 Urban Touring Series finale – Report

Posted: 07 Jan 2020 01:22 AM PST

The 2019/20 season of the Urban Touring Series UTS concluded this past weekend at Urban RC’s rooftop raceway in downtown Singapore. A total of 41 entries across three classes made this one of the largest local races and was a fitting way to end the 4th season of UTS racing. Making it’s debut as an exhibition class was the 45+ Veterans Touring Car class, which attracted 13 entries, with several local legends returning to racing after being out of action for decades. First up was the premier Touring Car class of 17.5T Blinky which attracted a total of 25 entries. Setting the pace in qualifying was local ace, Nicholas Lee, who secured overall TQ with three perfect qualifying runs. Dominic Quek’s best opportunity for a TQ run was in Q1 where he started his qualifying with a blistering pace in the opening laps. However, a spin in the middle dog-leg in lap 4 meant Dominic had to settle for 2nd for the round and overall. PY Tang qualified 3rd, Esmail Apandi 4th, Sean Lee in 5th and making his first UTS A-Main was 13-year old, Zaccheus Lam. Bumping up from the B-final into the A-Main were Allan Tan and Sebastian Lee.

In the finals, A-Main leg 1 went to Nicholas after the challenge of Dominic dissipated in two body-tuck incidents. With Dominic deciding to DNF to conserve tyres, PY would take 2nd with Esmail 3rd. A-Main Leg-2 was a much closer affair with Dominic nipping at Nicholas’ heels throughout the race. Dominic appeared to have the faster car but could not find a way past Nicholas who defended well. Sean Lee did well to finish 3rd after starting in 5th. With the win in A2, Nicholas was the early overall winner but he elected to start A-Main leg 3 just to spice things up. Nicholas made it a perfect sweep when he took the A3 win, with Dominic in 2nd and PY in 3rd.

In the Formula Class, with the small field, interest was centred on how well the 3D-printed car piloted by Tapana V would perform and whether it would last. In leg 1, Andy Tan would get the better of Tapana with Eric in 3rd. Leg 2 went the way of Tapana’s 3D-printed car, setting up a showdown in Leg 3 for the overall title. Leg 3 finally saw Tapana’s car succumb after an incident with a pipe resulted in an arm breakage and a DNF.

The highly anticipated debut of the 45+ Veterans Touring class, restricted to those aged at least 45 years and above, and not having qualified in the A-Main in local races, saw local legends Sam Cheng and Khamil “barely 45 years old” Hyder return to local racing. In qualifying, Khamil was untouchable, with Kelvin Goh qualifying second while HJ Quek would secure a P3 start. In the A-Main, Khamil remained a class above the rest of the field as he ran away with the win in A1 and A2, Kelvin Goh took 2nd overall with a win in A3, while HJ secured 3rd on a tie-break. The class was a huge success going by the excited chatter and big smiles on the faces of the competitors, and will feature in the 2020 season of UTS.

With the conclusion of this race, the series champions for UTS Season 4 were also crowned. Based on four of the six events that were run, taking his 4th consecutive win in the Touring class was Dominic Quek, while Tapana V secured the Formula crown.
