The Wake Up

TUESDAY, AUG. 6, 2024

Dozens of cannabis dispensaries across Ohio that, until now, sold only to patients seeking medicinal marijuana can expect huge crowds today as they open their doors to recreational users.

The Ohio Department of Cannabis Control gave permission to 98 marijuana dispensaries to begin serving recreational customers Tuesday, if they choose to do so. It's the moment that many Ohioans have waited for since 2.2 million voters passed an initiated statute nine months ago, legalizing recreational marijuana use among adults 21 and older.

You can find the complete list of approved dispensaries and their locations in reporter Laura Hancock's story below.

But if you plan on paying your local dispensary a visit, bear in mind that recreational sales might be limited at first. That's because dispensaries have promised the state in their applications that they would keep enough supply on hand to continue meeting the needs of medical patients while they adapt to the new recreational demand.
