Dear Friend, Welcome back to my Week in Review newsletter. Please remember to follow me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube for regular updates on how I am serving the people of South Carolina! Recognizing Our Men and Women in Blue Every day, police officers in South Carolina and across our nation put their lives on the line to serve and protect our communities. To celebrate our brave law enforcement officers, I joined my Senate colleagues in passing a resolution declaring May 14th - May 20th National Police Week. By ensuring the safety of our communities, we’re planting the seeds of hope for a better future for all Americans. I'll never waver in my commitment to support our police and their efforts to build safe communities. Read more about our resolution here. Restoring Confidence In Our Banking System Click here to watch Senator Scott Question Silicon Valley and Signature Bank Executives. At this week’s Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Development hearings, I questioned the executives of Silicon Valley and Signature Banks, as well as federal regulators, on their roles in recent banking collapses. Bank executives failed to manage their risk and regulators failed to conduct proper supervision of these banks – despite warning signs flashing back in 2021. While our banking system in South Carolina and across the United States remains strong and resilient, the bank executives and regulators must be held accountable for their failures. Americans must have faith in our financial institutions. Learn more about my questions to federal regulators here. Reaching For The Sky Pilot shortages have reached record highs, making flight cancellations and delays a routine hassle for working Americans. Although aviation jobs are in high demand - providing workers with well-paying careers - the extensive and expensive training they require has undermined Americans’ ability to tap into this vital industry. That’s why I introduced legislation to give Americans flexibility with the hard-earned money they invest into 529 plans. The Aviation Workforce Development Act allows such funds to be used to pay for FAA-certified flight and aviation maintenance programs. Affording our aviation sector the workforce necessary to sustain the tremendous growth South Carolina has enjoyed will ensure tourists continue to flock to our great state and will provide South Carolinians with reliable and efficient travel. Celebrating The Jewish American Community Jewish Americans are a vibrant part of our nation’s history, and their extraordinary accomplishments have pushed America forward as a beacon of hope, faith, and freedom. Today, over 6 million in the Jewish community call America home, blessing our country with their shared values and resilient spirit. This week, I was proud to join Senators Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), and Rick Scott (R-Fla.) in leading a resolution recognizing Jewish American Heritage Month and celebrating the many contributions of Jewish Americans to the United States. I am proud to stand with the Jewish community, especially as despicable antisemitism is on the rise. We must reaffirm our commitment to not only calling out this hate, but crushing it wherever it rears its ugly head. Read more about our resolution here.
