The shock of skyrocketing electric bills
By Bob Warren Have a boost: Health care officials have pleaded with Louisiana residents to get vaccinated -- with only so-so success. Now, health officials are recommending vaccinated people get a COVID booster shot. A third-dose program could begin next month. And if you're relying on some other drug, say ivermectin, as a silver bullet against COVID, a number of health agencies are warning of potential problems. Speaking of COVID, across metro New Orleans several thousand students and staffers are now quarantining due to possible exposure. Here today: The Pass-a-Loutre Wildlife Management Area celebrates its 100th birthday this year. But there’s little hope the area off the tip of Louisiana where the Mississippi River meets to Gulf of Mexico will be around to mark another century. Reporter Tristan Baurick and photographer spent some time there and tell us why. Sticker shock: Noticed your power bills going up? Some St. Tammany residents are experiencing a little sticker shock this month as they open their electric bills and see some big numbers on the page. Also in the news: A New Orleans 911 supervisor has died of COVID complications. And yet another arrest has been made in connection with fatal hit and run on the Hale Boggs bridge in St. Charles Parish. Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us. BW |
