Reaching for Respect | Would Jesus eat frybread? That’s the question Renee Begay found herself asking when she became a Christian. A member of the Sandhill Crane Clan, Begay grew up in Pueblo of Zuni in Southwest New Mexico. How would allegiance to Jesus change her commitment to her culture? “It might be an individual decision for me to make,” Begay said on the latest episode of Where Ya From?, “but I know that it’s going to affect the rest of my community.” Compelled by the challenges of her own experience, Begay founded the Nations movement, a national ministry that builds relationships with the Native American community. She’s passionate about her faith. And she remains passionate about her people because the God she worships is, too. CNN anchor and chief Washington correspondent Jake Tapper spoke to the importance of keeping the inherent value of each person always in mind on the latest episode of The Russell Moore Show. “My faith has influenced me not just as a journalist but as a citizen [toward] respecting debate and having a knee-jerk respect for whatever people’s faiths are,” Tapper said. May we remember that the best debates, dialogues, and even disagreements are built on a foundation of respect for the remarkable worth of every image-bearer. |
