Rare disease research at the U of M holds global promise

Minneapolis city leaders are decrying the violence that broke out late on the Fourth of July, including gunfire that wounded seven people at Boom Island Park.

Officials described it as a night of "whack-a-mole" as officers chased large groups who were shooting fireworks at people, cars and police officers. Dispatchers received around 1,300 calls to 911 over a period of about seven hours.

Interim Police Chief Amelia Huffman says the more than 80 officers on duty were stretched by the influx of calls.
