View the Twitter Moment! Updated Radon in Schools Research: CAREX Canada released updated Radon in Schools research. Their team investigated where school testing has occurred in Canada, as a follow-up to their research in 2016. They found that school testing rates remain low in some of the most populated provinces, though some school districts in these provinces are taking the initiative to test. CELA call for action on radon in child care settings: In a commentary recently published in Environmental Health Review, CELA joined the Canadian Partnership for Children's Health and Environment (CPCHE), the Canadian Child Care Federation, public officials, and radon experts in calling for mandatory action on radon in child care settings. Despite its known risks and the availability of testing and remediation measures, most Canadian child care facilities are not tested. Radon awareness bill passes in Alberta: Legislation that requires the government to develop educational materials and a public awareness campaign on the dangers of radon gas has been passed.Bill 209, a private member’s bill dubbed the Radon Awareness and Testing Act, was introduced in mid-November by NDP Calgary-East MLA Robyn Luff. | |
