| | Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam admitted Friday that he appeared in a racially offensive photo on his medical school yearbook page that featured men in blackface and Ku Klux Klan robes. Northam has apologized, saying “this behavior is not in keeping with who I am today,” but a growing number of fellow Democrats and Republicans are calling on him to resign. On MSNBC, Gov. Murphy, D-N.J., told Chris Hayes that he doesn’t think Gov. Northam has any other choice other than to step aside. Michael Moore, on the Last Word, invited the governor to call into MSNBC and resign on live TV. Earlier today, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., officially launched his 2020 presidential campaign, invoking a message of economic populism and racial justice along with a veiled swipe at President Donald Trump's leadership. The 49-year-old former mayor of Newark, New Jersey, joined the fast-growing field of hopefuls. Tonight, with the government open again, President Trump is back at Mar-a-Lago. It will be the president’s first visit to the resort since Thanksgiving, as he stayed in Washington D.C. during the shutdown crisis. He will return to D.C. next week to deliver the State of the Union address Tuesday. |
