Plus, Simone Biles apologizes to transphobe

Hi there,

šŸ’” Rachel Maddow doesn’t sugarcoat fascism. As President Donald Trump’s second term barrels forward Maddow is documenting resistance, not just unraveling. She spoke to The Advocate about covering Trump and resistance to his agenda. ā€œThe opposition to him is the most important thing,ā€ she said. ā€œBecause I think that what Trump is trying to do is really obvious. He really is trying to essentially overthrow the U.S. government and the U.S. Constitution and institute a strongman, authoritarian form of government where all power is personalized, and the courts and the Congress don’t matter, and he just rules effectively as dictator.ā€

šŸ‘€ Olympic champion gymnast Simone Biles is apologizing for personal aspects of her criticism of Riley Gaines, a former college athlete who has become an activist against transgender women’s inclusion in women’s sports. Biles has reiterated, however, that sports should be inclusive and that trans athletes deserve empathy and respect.

🌈 Gina Ortiz Jones, a lesbian and military veteran who served in President Joe Biden’s administration, has been elected mayor of San Antonio, the second-largest city in Texas and seventh-largest in the U.S.

Onward and upward,
