Now that fall has arrived and the lazy days of summer are over, it’s time to buckle down, focus on the future, and get busy! If you have a job you love (or at least don’t mind) then it’s time to elevate the talent and attention you bring to your work every day. If you’re looking for a new job or just getting your career off the ground, spend some time thinking carefully about what you need, what you want, and where you’re headed. And if you’re at a crossroads and you have no idea where to take your career or what to do next, it’s time to get some advice from seasoned experts and career counselors.

On Job Action Day, we gather the best experts in the career management field and ask them to share their experience and wisdom with our readers. And they never let us down! This year, our theme focuses on a commencement speech by Mike Rowe regarding “passion” and its role in career growth. Rowe (of “Dirty Jobs” fame) counsels job seekers to follow opportunities, and then bring their passion to their daily tasks. Not all jobs are glamorous, but if we can engage with the realities of our work and find ways to apply our unique talents and natural curiosity, we’ll be poised to grow and thrive.

In the essay series, Richard Eisenberg explains what it means to be “fully charged” and why this may be more important that pursuing simple happiness. Deborah Brown-Volkman discusses living in the present and making peace with your past before you turn your attention toward the future and start making decisions about the direction of your career.
