Hello, Do you remember when the internet could be better? Different parts of the internet were spaces where you could build, learn, connect, explore, and share together. There was often incredible potential online. That’s become less and less true. Irresponsible tech companies have gobbled up much of the internet in order to extract profit wherever they can. They want to seize your attention, your personal data, your privacy, and then sell it – either back to you, or to someone else. We can reclaim the internet from irresponsible tech companies, but it will require a movement of people working together. I'm writing to ask if you can help build that movement by donating to help reach our ambitious goal for "Giving Tuesday" – raising $250,000 USD by midnight tomorrow. Please donate $25 to Mozilla today and take your next step to reclaim the internet. Your donation will help reach our ambitious goal and be immediately put to use in our research, campaigning, and development work to take on irresponsible tech companies. We know that we can reclaim the internet, because we did it before – in fact, that's why Mozilla exists in the first place. Twenty five years ago, Internet users had no choice when it came to web browsers… until Mozilla offered an open source alternative. Tens of millions of people then chose Mozilla instead of Microsoft, and together, people reclaimed the internet. Our task today is different, but still the same. Instead of a single browser monopoly in Microsoft, we face an internet dominated by a number of tech companies whose default behavior is to either deprioritize or disregard peoples' privacy. These irresponsible tech companies collect and sell our data, build untrustworthy AI products, and some even treat the internet as a private commodity, not a public resource. Just like before, it may seem like an impossible task – how do we take on tech companies that crave your data, disregard your privacy, and extract profit wherever they can find it? The answer is still the same: we build a movement of people to reclaim the internet. We choose secure products that protect our privacy. We act to challenge irresponsible tech companies and hold them accountable. And we build a future where we protect the internet as a public resource – together. That is why I am asking you today, as a member of Mozilla's community. Can you make a donation this year to Mozilla and help reach our goal of raising $250,000 USD by midnight tomorrow? Donate $25 to Mozilla today and together, we can reclaim the internet. Thank you for all you do for the internet, Michael Whitney Director, Digital Engagement Mozilla |
