Protesters camp in front of Minneapolis City Hall to fight encampment evictions

Activists set up the protest on Sunday night. By Monday morning it had grown to five tents, a couple canopies and banners, including one draped in front of a statue of former Minneapolis Mayor Hubert H. Humphrey, which read “Stop the sweeps. No evictions on stolen land.”

Lyric Opera of the North opens its season with a groundbreaking opera, “As One.” Companies around the world have performed the chamber opera. In Duluth, the lead role of will be played by two singers, a baritone and a mezzo-soprano.

L'etoile du Gourd! Massive Minnesota pumpkin squashes U.S. record

A horticulture teacher from Minnesota has set a new U.S. record for the heaviest pumpkin after raising a giant gourd weighing 2,560 pounds. Travis Gienger, of Anoka, Minn. won an annual pumpkin-weighing contest in Northern California Monday.

MPCA settles lawsuit with longtime employee who raised petroleum complaints

In the agreement reached last month, the MPCA agreed to pay Mark Toso $159,000 plus mediation fees, but did not admit any wrongdoing.
