Hi John, All sectors of the Australian community are up in arms over the outrageous attempt by the Federal Government to subvert our democracy and ram through Parliament its new anti-encryption legislation.
The Federal Government's draft encryption bill could seriously damage Australia’s — and international — cyber security and, would act contrary to its stated aim of increasing security for Australians, a submission jointly made by the telco industry body Communications Alliance, the Australian Information Industry Association and the Australian Mobile Telecommunications Association claims. A group of privacy and rights organisations have called on Australian politicians to reject the encryption bill which was introduced into Parliament last week, as it creates insecurity by design which will get in the way of Australian companies who seek to do business in European markets. Google's reluctance to offer any public comment on its plans to launch a censored search engine in China has been reinforced by a report that the company has made employees erase from their systems a confidential memo containing details about the China plan. The telecommunications industry regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, wants to change the rules governing the industry to allow it to issue infringement notices for contraventions of the Service Migration Determination regulating consumer moves to the national broadband network. The future of broadcasting platforms to the imminent deployment of Australia’s 5G networks will be the focus of this year’s RadComms conference to be staged in Sydney by the telecommunications regulator, the Australian Communications and Media Authority, in October.
