Google is launching a powerful new AI app for your Android phone

It's called Gemini and it could eventually replace Google Assistant

Remember Bard, Google’s answer to ChatGPT? Well, it's now officially called Gemini. Also, all those fancy AI features in Duet AI (for Google Workspaces) have been folded into the Gemini branding.

Additionally, Google has launched a standalone Gemini app on Android, with the features also being made available to iPhone users within the Google app on iOS.

Gemini comes in three flavors — Nano, Pro, and Ultra — according to the training dataset size and the inherent capabilities. The Gemini Nano model is already running natively on the Google Pixel 8 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S24 series phones, and Pro remains free. However, access to the most powerful ‘Ultra’ version costs $20 per month.

The move is part of Google's efforts to keep pace with the latest AI products from Microsoft and OpenAI ...

SMARTWATCH REVIEW by Andy Boxall

I tested G-Shock’s new Apple Watch Ultra killer — and it’s great

'The new Rangeman is a brilliant blend of both G-Shock and smartwatch worlds'

The more I wear and use Casio’s fully connected G-Shock watches, the more I think they are the ideal casual smartwatch. The most recent watch on my wrist is the G-Shock GPR-H1000 Rangeman, and it’s very different from the GPR-B1000 Rangeman I wore in 2018, which was so heavy that it was practically unmanageable.

Mac desktops need a serious boost

Apple's Mac Studio is its most attractive and accessible desktop PC, offering tremendous power in a refined package. What will Apple do to keep it on top?

Before the release of Apple's M3 chipsets, the Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra was the fastest Mac around. But the M3 Max changed everything, allowing the MacBook Pro to rival the Mac Studio in performance by offering a more advanced chipset design.

Unless Apple plans to discontinue the Mac Studio, it needs to bring out a meaningful update — sooner rather than later.

The Mac Studio is an excellent physical specimen. It’s a remarkably small desktop that packs a ton of power, and no other PC can match its elegant yet functional design.

I ended up choosing the MacBook Pro 16 over the Mac Studio, not because I didn’t love Apple’s compact desktop. Far from it ...
