A Powderfinger reformation has been on the cards for years. The only thing standing in the way of it were the band members.
Most expected it far sooner. The floods that devastated their native South East Queensland in 2011 seemed an opportune time for a fundraiser. But it was too soon. (We got Dave Grohl
instead).
Earlier this year Bernard Fanning and Ian Haug
joined forces to raise money for the Rural Fire Service. And when the band make their full return next weekend, it's in aid of Beyond Blue and Support Act.
Say what you will about Powderfinger getting back together – they are big enough to handle it – at least their heart is in the right place. It always has been. They quit while they were ahead, they're coming back because they want to. And they're not making it all about them.
They say it's for one night only. I don't believe them. One thing's for sure: they'll do what suits them.
I hope they play 'Living Type'.
