Good evening

There will be more than a few of us wondering what on earth UEFA were thinking by holding the Champions League Final - between two English clubs - in Portugal.

Wembley and a few other British venues were happy to host the competition final, which made sense given the current perilous state of Covid cases in Portugal and elsewhere.

And that’s without even considering the effects on climate change of all those planes heading off on a journey which didn’t need to be made.

But UEFA wanted all their hangers-on at the final and they didn’t want them to have to isolate before and/or after the game.

And now we know the outcome.

Hundreds of Chelsea and Manchester City supporters are having to isolate themselves after being contacted by track and trace following a number of positive cases.

The country itself has also been removed from the travel Green List, meaning holidaymakers who have booked their summer break face 10 days quarantine on their return.

What an avoidable mess.

Stay safe and have an enjoyable evening,

Gillian
