| | | Pornhub booted off Instagram after complaints from anti-sexual exploitation group | Curated for you byCP Editors | Good afternoon! It's Tuesday, September 6, and today's headlines include the removal of Pornhub from social media platform Instagram, a survey exploring church growth, and One Million Moms' calls for the cancellation of Disney's new FX series "Little Demon." | Pornhub's Instagram account has been suspended for violating the social media platform's "community standards given the increasing reports of Pornhub hosting child sexual abuse material, sex trafficking, filmed rape, and non-consensual videos and images," National Center on Sexual Exploitation CEO Dawn Hawkins announced in a statement shared with The Christian Post. The account, which had more than 13 million followers and over 6,200 posts, did not share pornographic content but promoted pornography and encouraged followers to become pornography performers. Hawkins—who noted that Pornhub had a blue verification check despite it encouraging children to pursue a career in the pornography industry and ongoing accusations of illegal activity—praised the Meta-owned platform for "courageously choosing to stop partnering with Pornhub" and called on other companies to follow suit. NCOSE partnered with similar nonprofit advocacy groups in 2019 on the #WakeUpInstagram campaign, which called on the social media giant to stop facilitating child sexual abuse and grooming. | | Survey explores growth trajectory of church plants | A survey from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) has revealed that churches that expect to multiply at least 10 times are growing nearly 10 times as quickly as those that don't expect to multiply. The data also suggests that some non-growing churches spent more at launch than growing churches. The survey, which questioned more than 2,700 participants from more than 2,300 church planters/founding pastors and nearly 400 multisite or campus directors, also found that 83% of growing churches with 500-plus in weekly attendance in 2022 paid their pastors full time at launch, compared to 55% of growing churches with 50-100 attendees and 52% of growing churches with 0-50 in attendance. Sixty percent of non-growing churches with 0-100 members reported paying their pastors full time since launch. Northwood Head of School Renee McLamb told The Christian Post that it did not plan on baptizing so many students, explaining they were responding to what they saw as a "move of God." Not all parents were happy with the baptisms, however, with one unidentified parent stating, "They should have corralled the kids in the back of the church, another room—somewhere—and said, 'We understand your desire to get this done. We'd love for your families to be here and present with you.'" Read more. |
| | What I mean when I speak of the political seduction of the Church | In his latest editorial, Dr. Michael Brown discusses his new book, The Political Seduction of the Church: How Millions of American Christians Have Confused Politics with the Gospel, and the concept of political seduction. "I’m referring to the unhealthy marriage of politics and the Gospel. I’m speaking about the Church becoming an appendage to a political party. I’m talking about God’s people getting consumed with election fever," Brown writes. Pointing to Alfred Kinsey and his Kinsey Institute, Baldwin asserts, "They knew that if they were to be successful in undermining America’s founding Christian culture, they need to get to the kids. Indeed, it is quite clear that the sex education movement was specifically created to radically change America’s culture and destroy it they did. Any parents who tried to stop them were smeared as backwoods hicks." Read more. |
