Your Thursday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Feb 17, 2022 | | | | | | Good evening, The cultural issues which led to the resignation of Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick have a long reach. Most of us will have been appalled at some of the incredible stories which have emerged from that force in the past couple of years and in the end it was inevitable that the person at the summit would have to take the fall. The instances of racism, misogyny, taking selfies of murder victims and of course a serving officer raping and murdering an innocent woman were shocking as individual issues but almost unbelievable taken as a group. The problem arising for the police is that all get tarred with the same brush. The vast majority of serving officers in the Met and beyond are doing a great job in very difficult circumstances...but they have the burden of bad publicity following them. So it is hardly surprising - but very sad - that, as we report today, many Lancashire officers do not feel respected and would not recommend policing as a job. There is a big task to do to turn that around. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at [email protected] | |
